Sam, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I would say I develop confidence and self-esteem through a couple different things. One is always practising positive self-talk. I think I got into a phase in my life when I wasnt doing that as much and it makes a big difference. I also like to make myself feel sexy, however that means that day. I firmly believe that when you look good on the outside it helps you feel good on the inside and that feeling on the inside will last much longer than the makeup will. So getting dressed up with intention is another. I also think just trying my best to practice healthy habits makes me much more confident in myself and in my mindset on things which in turn makes me more confident in my voice. So to sum it all up, just trying my best everyday!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I would love to tell viewers about my jewelry line called SELF by Sam Reid. This is a jewelry line I started about 2 years ago to make some extra money, but became a beautiful passion project. I naturally started it with the materials I already owned and thought that would be a great way to continuing going about it. Almost all the products I make, are made with materials that are donated, thrifted, upcycled, or repurposed. I thought this would be a great way to promote sustainable living and reusing what we already have so less end up in the landfills. I really believe the health of our planet is really important and it’s not about everyone being perfect, but everyone trying a little bit in the ways they can. The brand is available on my website selfbysamreid.com and I am very grateful for the opportunity to write about it and share my art. I believe we are all artists and practicing our unique artistries is also very important for the health of the planet. For me, it is all about learning more about yourSELF, loving yourSELF and believing in yourSELF for a happy, peaceful, and joyful world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that got me to this point were my dedication, my patience, and ability to take the pressure off and not compare myself and my brand to others. I think it’s very important to stay inspired by others but know when to stop consuming and start producing. No ones art should be the same so focusing on SELF when it’s necessary really helps carry you through moments when you are unsure. I say dedication because there will be some collections that may not do as well as you think, but believing in the brand and not giving up is really important. We all are our harshest critics and you probably are doing a lot better than you think. Even selling one piece is a GREAT start. Good things take time. Having patience when working through creative blocks and pressure moments is really impactful. All things pass and it will always be worth taking the little extra time to make something you produce that you like, turn into something that you love and are really proud of. So keep going!

I am looking for all creative people to collaborate with! I model, creative direct, shoot and make art, so if there is anything within that realm that you need assistance with or need jewelry for, I am your girl!
