We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Burton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.

Samantha, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I’ve always known from a young age that I wanted to help people and be able to provide resources to them. I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry since a young child, but didn’t pursue it until I became an adult at the age of 30. During the pandemic is when I realized I was ready to take that leap of faith and start my beauty brand, so that is what I did. By creating a Beauty Supply store I am able to help bridge the gap between consumers and brands, especially for the minority community with quality beauty and wellness products. Every day I am reminded what my purpose is when a customer orders from my store. Regular self-reflection and mindfulness practices helps me stay connected to my purpose. Committing to continuous learning and personal development has allowed me to grow as an entrepreneur and stay aligned with my purpose. Staying informed about industry trends and best practices helps me a lot as well. Most importantly, having a strong support system of family, friends, and colleagues who believe in my vision plays a crucial role in my journey. Their encouragement and belief in my purpose keeps me motivated.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the three qualities that were the most impactful in my journey are Passion/Purpose: Staying connected to my passion and purpose. Remembering why I started my business and letting that drive me through tough times. With that, my passion will be contagious and inspire others to support my vision. Next I would say is Networking and Relationship Building: Building a strong network of mentors, peers, and industry contacts has provided invaluable support, advice, and opportunities. These relationships have helped me navigate challenges and seize new opportunities. I would advise anyone to start building your network early. Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and connect with others in your field. Don’t be afraid to reach out to potential mentors and ask for advice. Be genuine and generous in your interactions, offering help and support to others as well. Lastly, market knowledge: Staying informed about the beauty industry by reading relevant publications, attending trade shows, and engaging with other professionals. Conduct thorough market research to understand my target audience and tailor my products and services to meet their needs. Continuously seek feedback from my customers and choosing to adapt accordingly.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed, I take a step back. I take a step back to strategize and prioritize. Making a list of tasks that need to be completed is always helpful and keeps me in a calm space. One thing I am learning is that it is ok to give yourself permission to take breaks. Sometimes it is necessary to take things one step at a time, everything isn’t meant to be completed at one time. Another thing I do is set realistic goals for myself. I set realistic and achievable goals for myself. I avoid overcommitting and learn to say no when necessary to maintain a balanced workload. I try to be realistic about what I can accomplish in a given timeframe. Set small, attainable goals and celebrate my achievements along the way. Learn to set boundaries and manage expectations. Lastly, I try to focus on the positive aspects of my work and life, practicing gratitude and acknowledging my achievements, no matter how small. Cultivating a positive mindset can helps me cope with stress more effectively.
