We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.

Hi Samantha , so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?

My business is a very physical activity because of the load in and load out of the markets. As a full-time reseller, I am often times outside in the hot sun for hours. All of this plus the consistency of having to break down my store at the market has empowered me toprioritize my self-care in ways that might seem trivial, but keep me grounded and capable. The most important thing that I do after a market for self-care is, I take an Epson salt bath! Prioritize my self-care in ways that might seem trivial, but keep me grounded and capable. The most important thing that I do after a market for self-care is I take an Epson salt bath! I know it sounds silly, but it makes a world of difference with easing my muscle aches and resetting for the next day.. I also find that it helps me sleep at night. Additionally, I work out at least two times per week. I would like to make that more but due to the nature of my business, I am pretty physical already on the weekends and so I have found that focus workouts two times a week help me to stay strong and also to fuel self-care. And finally, sleep! Being self-employed and without children does empower me to choose my sleep schedule. But even if I had other factors preventing me from sleeping in, I would make sure that I got to bed early enough to create a sleep schedule of minimum eight hours per night. This has made a world of difference in my life since I was in my 20s, and I believe it is the key to the fountain of youth!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I love being a reseller because I feel that I’m truly giving my customers joy! As a product based business of mostly one of One items, my customers feel that they are discovering a treasure for themselves when they choose to purchase something from me. I have learned what types of products are best for my client base as well as what’s trending and how I can acquire it at the best price. Knowing that I can pass on a deal but still make money to buy clients is also something that’s very Encouraging for me. So some backstory on what I do. I am a full-time market reseller, which means that every Saturday and Sunday I am setting up somewhere new in the Baltimore Washington DC area. On Saturdays, I am typically set up at a Baltimore base vintage market. And on Sunday I pick and choose which market I would like to sell at. The wonderful thing about being an in person market seller is also that I get to explore new areas around my region. My focus as a reseller is on selling the trends. I also specialize in streetwear and designer clothing. I work with clients, wholesalers, and even unlikely places like a good friend’s grandmother‘s closet! The number one question I get is where do you get your stuff and to be honest my response is always everywhere! In 2025 I started carrying more jewelry. And so when a new or returning client shops for me they can also expect to find an assortment of jewelry that is trending right now.

I think a lot of people feel that my job is just shopping shopping shopping. Which in a sense it is, but surprisingly I do less shopping than you think. I am actually buying from different contacts, very strategically and actually not going out into the world and shopping for it. But generally speaking what is most exciting about my business is that of course it is Fashion focused and that keeps me learning about culture, what people younger than me are looking for, and generally speaking I feel that Fashion is the highest form of self expression.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, there are definitely a few qualities and skills that have made me stand apart in the reseller world. Some of these skills came from prior experience and making mistakes along the way. Wow others just came from general life experience and absorbing how others in my industry were building their business. The most important skill that is required as a reseller is the art of salesmanship. I often times see people who aren’t great salesman running a booth, and while they can still sell because their items might speak for themselves, if you are a good salesman and you can connect with the customer And either help them fine with her looking for or perhaps help them find more than just one thing, your profits and returning customer base will inevitably increase. The second scale that I have that has helped set me apart in this business is the scale of merchandising. I ran a vintage store in my 20s and the owner of the store was actually very strict about merchandising. I was always getting it wrong! But because I was always getting it wrong. I was always being corrected and shown another way. I believe that was a interval point in my learning around how to merchandise so that customers feel that what you’re selling is appealing and also so that they have access to engage with the items. I often time see resellers pack their booth, and so the customers can’t see the items as well. There is an art form to merchandising that honestly is no set formula but at the same time there are some quick and dirty rolls of thumbs that have helped me to maintain a booth that is easy to shop and also appealing when you first enter. And finally, the third skill is my social media process! I am a millennial and so I grew up with social media. I am not the best, but I also am consistent at it, and I believe that has helped me to gain followers and by having followers many markets are interested in having the on board as a vendor because I can promote the markets for them of course followers don’t always equal quality, but it has given me a leg up in this industry, and I still to the Day create content, which is very focused on being a reseller and helping other reseller to become better as well as reaching my customers with items for sale.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

This is a very relevant question for me right now as I have been reflecting on areas of growth that I need to make a priority in order to reach my goals in this business. I would say the area of growth I have experienced in the last year has been recognizing what markets are actually going to be profitable. I have a great situation in the Baltimore and Washington DC area, but there are also some really interesting opportunities That exist all along the East Coast. Just last month I was a seller at a market in Massachusetts and recently I was a seller at a market in NYC. Wow they were great experiences and I of course did sell things, it was not ““ worth the squeeze. What that means is I had to pay a lot of front for various resources like renting a car or gas and tolls and I did not sell as much as I would have normally at my markets in my region. And so I’ve learned that Wow some markets may seem to be the best place to sell and make a lot of money, that might not be the case, especially if they are far away from you and it requires a lot more of your time energy and money upfront. I definitely lost out on thousands of dollars in the month of May simply because I decided to travel to markets instead of staying focused on the markets I know so well here in the region That only require up to one hour of travel and no extra expenses. I think that some people believe that they need to be moving around all the time in order to reach a new customer base and what I have learned is that they do not understand that just showing up where they are having the best results consistently is going to give them the most profits and the best results for their investment of time.
