Meet Samantha Dettinger

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Dettinger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Samantha, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

Before launching Reimagine Branding, I had a great job working full-time as the marketing director for a couple of countertop companies in Columbus, OH, all under the same umbrella. I learned so much about marketing during my time there and I wanted to share it with others!

When I went to launch the business I got a lot of comments and opinions of people doubting my ability to start this journey, some of the comments were “Maybe you should still work part time before doing this”, or “good luck with that”, “Owning a business is hard work, are you sure you want to do this?”, or I would hear that people were talking about me behind my back and doubting me. This was hurtful to me but it wasn’t going to stop me. My husband, parents, and best friends were extremely supportive of me during this launch period.

I had saved up $20k that was enough to launch my business and if everything failed I had the cash to survive for at least 6 months. I still wanted to work with the countertop companies, and I have a really great relationship with Marc Konkus who owns the companies, he is also an entrepreneur, and he respected my idea of going out on my own. Marc became my first customer at Reimagine Branding. I got very lucky, but this was because I pushed myself to present this concept despite the negativity I was receiving from outsiders.

I knew my worth before I started and I am even more confident now in what I do. I took the negativity as a challenge, to create positivity by making a promise to myself to do my best in everything I take on. I also remember that I am not asking for permission to live my life, I will do what I think is right always.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have been most impactful during my journey have been communication, integrity, and boundaries.

Communication is number one, don’t be afraid to over communicate with your clients. Let them know what they can expect. Follow up with emails, calls, and calendar invites.

Integrity is so important, know your values, and morals and live by them, and be authentically you.

Boundaries are something that took me a long time to set in place, make sure you take care of yourself first. Don’t over commit it ends up in resentment.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m overwhelmed I take a step back, go for a walk, get a coffee or take just ten minutes to regroup. When I’ve taken time to step away from the work I can think clearly again. I typically write out a list everyday, I also use a platform called ClickUp for project management, this helps me stay on top of deadlines.

I typically go for items that take less time because it always feels good to check completed things off and then you have total focus on what the larger item is!
