Meet Samantha Fozio

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Fozio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from a deep love for what I do and the people I do it for. Owning a small business isn’t just a job — it’s a heartbeat. Every product I choose, every display I design, every event I plan is a reflection of my passion and commitment to creating something meaningful for our community. Over the years — especially surviving through challenges like COVID — I’ve learned that resilience isn’t about being unshaken; it’s about being willing to bend, to grow, to adapt without losing sight of your purpose. What keeps me going is the joy on a customer’s face when they find the perfect gift, the laughter at our events, the support of loyal customers who believe in us. That energy fuels me. It reminds me why I started and why I keep showing up — even on the hard days. This store is my heart, and my resilience is simply the result of pouring that heart into everything I do, day after day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As the co-owner of Royalton Gifts – a specialty gift boutique located in the heart of North Royalton, OH, I wear many hats — I hand-pick our inventory, work directly with customers, create window displays, plan special events, and keep things running day to day. But what I really do is create moments. I help people find the perfect gift to celebrate all of life’s sparkling moments — birthdays, weddings, new babies, even the small ‘just because’ moments. What’s most special to me is being part of those stories. Our shop isn’t just a store with products on a shelf — it’s a place where people feel something. Whether it’s joy, nostalgia, comfort, or inspiration, I love that we can make people feel seen and cared for. That connection is everything to me — it’s what makes the long days and hard work completely worth it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For me, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been authenticity, focus, and adaptability.

Authenticity has been at the heart of everything I do. Being true to who I am and what I love has shaped the direction of my business in a way that feels personal and meaningful — and that kind of genuine connection is something people can feel when they walk through our doors. My advice? Don’t build your business or your dream based on someone else’s highlight reel. Build it around what lights you up, and that passion will shine through.

Focus is another big one. It’s so easy to look around and compare — to think you need to do what someone else is doing in order to be successful. But I’ve learned that staying in your own lane and committing to your unique path is what really brings clarity and momentum. Keep your eyes on your own paper, and trust that your journey is unfolding exactly how it’s meant to.

And then there’s adaptability — because, let’s face it, things will never go exactly as planned. Trends shift, challenges hit (hello, pandemic), and you have to be willing to evolve without losing your core. That flexibility has helped us not just survive, but grow stronger.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

One of the biggest challenges I’m facing right now is finding a healthy balance between work and personal life. As a small business owner, it can feel like the work never really ends — there’s always something to do, something to respond to, or something new to create, especially with the pressure of staying visible and relevant on social media. There’s this constant push to keep up and be ‘on’ all the time, and that can be exhausting.

Lately, I’ve been working on setting better boundaries — limiting my screen time outside of work hours, and reminding myself that my business doesn’t need to occupy every single corner of my mind 24/7. I’m learning to trust that my customers will still be there, even if I don’t post something every single day. I’m also reminding myself that while I absolutely love my business and pour so much into it, it’s not the only part of my life — and it’s healthy to give myself space to rest and be present outside of work.

It’s a work in progress, but I truly believe that showing up for myself in that way will only help me show up better for my business in the long run.
