We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Hairston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’d definitely say I get my resilience from my mom and grandma! Theyre both incredibly strong, hard working and supportive women! I have watched both go through so much and always still remain true to themselves, still remain kind and giving. I think that’s why I always push myself and try to help others when I can.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a mom and wife People ask me all the time, why photography what makes it so special? Photography to me is so much more than just snapping a picture, it is capturing someone’s story and saving it forever. Photos last longer than we do most of the time, they are passed down from generation to generation. Photos are something that can help boost your confidence, and I love showing people their true beauty! Sometimes they can help you remember memories you may have forgot… Photos can hold so much, it’s beautiful and it’s why I do photography, why I love it and why I strive to provide images that are authentic to each individual client.
In addition to our regular packages I have curated packages this year for seniors and moms to be, they’re available to be book through our site!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I’d say having an outgoing personality is one that help journey, it equipped me with customer service skills and people skill. These definitely are used daily in my business.
Knowledge of modeling and basic camera skills, definitely helped me in the beginning starting out and still do, I have continued to learn and further educate myself to get better. I first started photography as a freelance model so, they definitely bounced off one another nicely!
If I had to give advice to those who are early in their journey it would be, remember we are all early in someone’s journey, you will never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try! Practice, practice, practice. Step out of your comfort zone and just go for it.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always up for a creative collaboration. I love bouncing ideas off of each other. I also admire and appreciate seeing other artist points of view. Sometimes you learn new ways to do things, sometimes you teach someone a new way to do thing. I love doing weird off the wall things, or even simple but impactful
Images, especially in my off time, when I can really just get creative and fun!
