Meet Samantha Lane

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Lane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in a sense of purpose and passion for improving people’s lives through thoughtful design. Firmly established in the founding this interiors firm was developing a company with the goal of creating spaces that not only look aesthetically pleasing but also enhance the quality of life for the people who use them. My focus is on designing environments that foster comfort, functionality, and joy, allowing people to create lasting memories within those spaces. This drive stems from a genuine desire to make a positive impact on others, turning each project into an opportunity to shape spaces that are both meaningful and empowering. I take pride in the transformation of a space and in the happiness it brings to those who live or work in it, which fuels my commitment to excellence in every design you create.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As an interior designer and co-founder of my company, I am at the intersection of creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship. What makes my work so special is the direct impact it has on people’s lives. I don’t just design spaces; I create environments that enhance the way people live, work, and interact. Each project is an opportunity to improve the well-being of my clients, whether it’s through a more functional layout, a calming atmosphere, or a design that simply makes them feel more at home.
The field of interior design offers a dynamic mix of variables—each space is unique, and each client comes with their own vision, needs, and challenges. This constant variety keeps you engaged and excited, as no two projects are ever the same. Additionally, the ever-evolving trends in design mean you’re always learning, adapting, and growing. This
aspect of my job allows me to stay on my toes, keeping my skills sharp and my creativity fresh. I thrive in this fluid environment, where innovation is key, and each new project teaches me something new, allowing me to constantly refine and expand my expertise.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Creative Vision: One of the key skills integral to my development as an interior designer is my creative vision. This allows you to see beyond a space’s current state and imagine its full potential. Being able to hone the ability to conceptualize designs that are both functional and aesthetically captivating, while also considering how each design will enhance the experience of those who use the space. Using creativity allows you to push boundaries and offer unique solutions to your clients’ needs.
Attention to Detail: As an interior designer, your ability to pay close attention to the finer details is crucial. From choosing the perfect layout& plan to ensuring the right balance of color, lighting, and furniture placement, your meticulous approach ensures that no aspect of a space is overlooked. This skill has enabled me to consistently deliver high-quality, polished designs that meet both my clients’ expectations and my own standards of excellence.
Adaptability & Continuous Learning: The ever-changing nature of design trends, technology, and client preferences means that your ability to adapt and stay current is essential. I have developed a strong ability to learn and evolve in this field, whether it’s by exploring new design trends, experimenting with innovative materials, or mastering the latest design tools. This adaptability allows you me ti stay relevant in an industry that is constantly shifting, and it enables you to bring fresh, modern perspectives to every project you take on.

My advice to some starting out would be staying authentic to your design style and work ethic, while remaining flexible to your clients’ perspectives, is key to achieving a balanced and successful design. Here’s some advice on how to navigate this:

Know Your Core Style: It’s important to be clear about your own design values and aesthetic. This foundation will help you stay true to yourself and ensure that your work reflects your unique vision and creative voice.

Listen to Your Clients: While it’s important to remain true to your design ethic, it’s equally essential to actively listen to your clients. They have their own needs, preferences, and lifestyle considerations, and understanding these can give you the insight needed to craft a space that feels personal to them.

Stay Flexible in Execution: While the overall vision should be consistent with your core values, be flexible in how that vision is executed. Design is not a rigid process; it involves constant problem-solving, adjusting to spatial limitations, or working within a budget. Remaining adaptable in your methods will ensure that you can meet the needs of your clients without compromising your own sense of design.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who sees the potential in an existing space and wants to breathe new life into it by reimagining its function and aesthetic. They value design that not only refreshes the look of a space but also enhances its practicality. This client is looking for a thoughtful, creative approach that transforms their current environment into something that feels new, more efficient, and aligned with their lifestyle or business needs.
