Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Walker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Samantha, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence blossomed out of a weary place. I wasn’t always confident in myself. Over the years I struggled with depression, poor self esteem and confidence. I learned to take ownership of my life through counseling and therapy services. Making a commitment to my wellness allowed me to become the woman I am now. I always knew the confidence was in there , I had to get to work in order to tap into it. I also feel like developing new friendships that were rooted in and growth mindset
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My brand name has been Curvy Confident & Nervous. I am transitioning to a more cool stage name , Sam Walks.
I transitioned from being a plus size model to being an event hostess/emcee. After many years on the runway I decided to pivot, I had a love of speaking and wanting to be more involved in production. I am now an in demand event hostess, red carpet interviewer, and public speaker. I love interviewing and networking with like minded individuals. On Black Friday, I released my first digital product, The Engagement Specialist “ This book serves as a beginners guide to becoming a confident public speaker. Whether you are a business owner or want to learn the art of commentary, this book will assist you on your journey. In the new year, I will be hosting webinars/offering public speaking classes. More exciting news, I will be featured on a talk show Confessions with Jeff Brown coming soon! Very excited!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 skills/qualities I feel were most impactful would have to be, charisma, self awareness and adaptability. To anyone early in their journey the #1 piece of advice from me is, be true to who you are. I spent years trying to “fit in” spaces that weren’t for me. Once I knew who I was , and focused on healing ,the real me emerged. Developing your skills comes with a lot of practice, skepticism, and uncertainty at times. I say, keep trying until you find what sticks. It is perfectly fine to change course. Know who you are, and what you want and keep that with you along your journey.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest obstacle I’ve had lately would have to be prioritizing my time. I feel like I have never worked so much. I am doing better as far as wellness appointments, and leaning on my accountability partners for check ins. Having a circle of people who remind you to rest, take a break, or step it up is a blessing!
