We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sammie Pechkurow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sammie below.
Hi Sammie, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I think my work ethic comes from having two parents who I have looked up to since I can remember. My dad was in the military when I was growing up and then became a police officer and he’s the best man I know and continues to amaze me. Then I have my mom who is just a force to be reckoned with. She has overcome more than her fair share of obstacles at past jobs and her current job and being able to watch her accomplish so many things growing up was truly inspiring.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run an Etsy shop where I sell bookmarks that I make and occasionally t-shirts and crewnecks. I started the page at the beginning of the year when a favorite author of mine, JL Hyde, had told me her fans were asking about where to buy bookmarks that I had made and sent just to her. She was kind enough to tell me to sell them online. I did just that and have been adding new bookmarks since! I just attended my first pop up event where I sold bookmarks, apparel and blind date with a book bundles!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having a creative side has definitely been the most important skill to have while starting this journey. Being knowledgable about what people might be looking for has also been helpful. I have an instagram dedicated just to books so it is very helpful to keep up with the current trends.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Believing in me. My parents have been my biggest supporters always. No matter what I had set my mind to growing up and even into my adult life, they were always telling me that I could do it. Having people so supportive AND encouraging is the biggest blessing of my life.
