Meet Sammitta Jackson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sammitta Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sammitta, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my mother. She was such a great woman! There were times she went through losses and had battles with her health. After some time, and through her faith in GOD, she bounced back and did so with so much grace and integrity. And seeing how she was able to come back from all of these things and still keep her faith and hope in GOD empowered me. Now I know that, with GOD, I am able to face any hurdles, obstacles, or struggles that come my way!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the owner of Hair Addictz Beauty Bar in Tampa Florida. I have owned my business since 2019. I have held my cosmetology license since 2006 and I have been licensed as an aesthetician/full specialist since 2017. I am also a licensed permanent hair removal technician.

At Hair Addictz, I offer multiple services. These services include skin care, brow tint and stain, teeth whitening, microshading, tooth gems, waxing and will be offering needless lip filler in the coming future. I’m always wanting to learn different skills and techniques within the beauty industry and look forward to adding more services to my roster!

Currently, I have gone into a partnership with my niece, Marquita Weems, and we are the proud owners of The Luxx Lab located here in Tampa, Florida as well. We recently celebrated our first anniversary!! Along with my offered services, we offer nail care, full body waxing, hair care, and mink lash extension services.

My goal is to own multiple businesses, offering opportunities to up-and-coming leaders in the business industry. I am also in the works of developing trainings for those who want to learn a new skill. I truly believe that multiple streams of income is the new norm and a must for most.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One of the qualities that has been most impactful during my journey has to be learning time management. Ensuring that I have time in between clients helps me to not become overwhelmed. This also ensures that I have enough time for my clients and the service that is being provided.
I have always lived by “treat people the way you want to be treated”.
Being organized has allowed me to provide quality services to my clients in a timely manner. Each service provided requires different equipment and/or techniques, so being organized is a key component in providing services to my clients.

Advice that I would give to up-and-coming artists would be to not overwhelm themselves. Don’t overbook yourselves…it can appear unprofessional. Also, allow yourself time in between your clients so that you can properly clean your area and get set up for your next service.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking to collaborate with other like-minded individuals in the industry.

I believe that social media is a great way to connect with others. So, I’m always looking for others that may be interested in collaborating. But if someone were to reach out to me via social media, email, text or calling…that would be awesome!
