We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sammy Todd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sammy below.
Sammy , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I find my purpose in art, the way that creating art reaches my soul. And, it is my goal to add sometime to the lives of others. I want to be a part of entertainment that people enjoy, or makes them feel something. Being a performer, I am so inspired by the light that other artists bring into my life, and it makes motivated to grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actress and model. In an industry that has its ups and downs, I have realized that the way that art makes me feel is more consistent than anything. I have been training under actors and dancers that I really look up to. I also have a few projects I’m working on that are in development, so I can’t talk about them right now, but I cannot wait to share them with you! I hope you follow along on my journey. I have also been taking dancing very seriously recently. I feel that learning is so valuable, and I’ve felt so lucky to learn from these acting coaches, improvisers and choreographers.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Bravery; I think it’s so important. Being brave to me doesn’t mean not feeling scared, but to not let that fear stop you. I never want to be wondering “what if..” This helps remind me to go for it even though I might be scared. I think I would never have gotten to where I am without persisting through fear. Just remember, the people you look up to were probably terrified to try and “go for it” but they did it anyways. And you can too! Once when I was on set, I saw a crew member with a T-Shirt that said “success is on the other side of fear.”
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Learning where I do have control. Things happen that are outside of our control that changes the state of the entertainment industry. Learning how to navigate and define what is in my ability has been eye opening and empowering. It can often feel like there’s a dead end until you think outside of the box.
