We were lucky to catch up with Samuel Green recently and have shared our conversation below.
Samuel, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic stems from a combination of influences that have shaped my values and principles over the years. Firstly, I attribute it to the strong foundation instilled by my parents, who always emphasized the importance of dedication, discipline, faith, and perseverance in everything I pursue. Their relentless commitment to their own professions served as a significant inspiration for me to strive for excellence in my endeavors.
Additionally, my experiences in overcoming challenges and setbacks have played a pivotal role in shaping my work ethic. Through these trials, I’ve come to understand the value of hard work, resilience, and the determination to achieve my goals, even in the face of adversity. Each obstacle has reinforced my belief in the power of consistent effort and has fueled my drive to continually push the boundaries of what I can achieve.
Moreover, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and role models throughout my career who have exemplified exceptional work ethic and dedication to their craft. Learning from their wisdom and observing their relentless pursuit of excellence has profoundly influenced my own approach to work.
Ultimately, my work ethic is a reflection of my deeply ingrained belief in the importance of commitment, passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in all aspects of my professional and personal life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am passionately dedicated to my music, constantly striving to be present in my now and a vessel. What excites me the most about my work is the opportunity to share my love for music and being to be the person you can always come to when you need to talk or just feel heard. It is so important for me to be me when creating because I wouldn’t want nothing but honesty and heartfelt truths when I listen to music. For me, the most special aspect lies in the relationship built between myself and the listeners – the best part is when I am told “I really felt you when you said…” it means so much to me when others can see themselves in my music but also quote it because It just goes to show that it truly resonated with them and that my job was done.
I have created art my entire life; from a little boy performing in front of my family during our family Christmas talent shows, to performing alongside some great musicians during my summers at my grandparents in Kansas City – creating is my love language and my way of communicating. The space music has created for me is the same space I believe we all should experience and that’s wha I keep in mind while creating.
Exciting new music is finally underway, including a few collaborations and an EP. I am thrilled to announce very soon all the things I have been working on and just sharing the light I found in some of my darkest times. These new endeavors reflect my unwavering dedication to that space thought got me here, and super excited to share these milestones with everyone. I also just wanted to shoutout Bridge Model Agency for being so patient with me and believing in me through some of these trying times.
In essence, my main objective is to establish a sanctuary where people can find solace, foster community, experience love, peace, joy, and simply have an incredible time. My constant inspiration stems from God, primarily, and also my sister, who persistently shatters boundaries in the black and brown community through her foundation, The Dara Ashley Foundation. This isn’t a goodbye but rather a ‘stay tuned’ – all I’ll reveal is that November marks the beginning of this exciting journey.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe that having a strong support system is necessary because there will be times when you need to lean on them, being consistent is a skill I believe everyone needs to become successful whether that is practicing all the time, working on your writing, building your skills in the studio and lastly being authentically you.
Don’t let life scare you away from where you belong. Create spaces that make you feel good but also don’t be afraid of being uncomfortable because those are the spaces we learn the most.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes I love collaborating I believe music is its best when there has been a collaborative effort. I just love creating with people from different walks of life, individuals who can understand my talk but also be able to put their own twist to it. Collabing is necessary because there are things you won’t hear until someone else points it out or they bring something out of you that you may not have known was there. I am always a student to the game and creating a space of freedom, fun, a party and timeless feel good ass music.
