Meet Samuel Tatum

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samuel Tatum. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Samuel, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

My creativity is a gift from God. When you are gifted by God the gift comes without limitations. As long you are exercising the gift, the gift will continue to grow. The more you operate in your creativity the more your creativity will come alive and stay alive. Everyday I’m working on something in order to keep my creative juices flowing, also watching other creative influencers for inspiration .

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a multi award winning barber. I’ve won over 70 awards competing across the USA. I’m known for doing very creative haircuts and styles creating master pieces with hair from wild bold colors to extraordinary design art cut into the hair. I have also created a brand titled MIDWEST LEGENDS this brand is designed to inspire the world through our creativity, our gifts and talents in hair art music etc… currently I’m working on a hair product line which is still in the making. Midwest Legends has all sorts of brand apparel from jackets, hats, t-shirts, and hoodies.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Being an artist, a barber, a hairstylist and an educator/leader all works together being an artist helped me become a very creative barber/stylist which also, in return I became an award winning barber/stylist. Through my influence in being creative helped me become a leader in my industry by helping other barbers and hair stylists become great at their crafts by teaching them how to cut and style hair. I have introduced new and upcoming barbers to the competition arena. In doing so, they also, became award winners as well. I’ll say to any one find something that you are passionate about where you heart is there also shall your treasures be. It’s not work when you love what you are doing. Do what you love, and love what you do. You can’t lose on that path.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

Your strengths are always going to be your strengths. We are often born with certain strengths or either our strengths was embedded in us through our up bringing. Those will never leave us. It would be wise to focus in more on our weaknesses because those are often the areas that carry our strengths to their destination. For instance a man working out only on his upper body strengths like his chest and arm muscles but, never working out his leg muscles. Your legs are responsible for carrying your upper body everywhere your body needs to go. Which means your legs strength should be just as important as the upper body strength or even stronger to carry the weight of your upper body muscles. If you don’t work on your legs its going to add strain to your leg muscles and bones and other ligaments which could cause severe damage in the long run and also create an unbalance look, movement, and walk for your body.
