Meet Samuel Tejada

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samuel Tejada. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samuel below.

Samuel, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Developing confidence for me didn’t come easy. I grew up with a very difficult upbringing. Because of sexual abuse at a young age, I was pushed into a lifestyle of promiscuity. That path led me to wrestle with addiction and even serious illness. For a long time, I felt broken and unworthy.

But God met me in the middle of all that darkness. He pulled me out, restored my life, and gave me a new identity in Him. Confidence didn’t come from pretending I had it all together—it came from realizing that my value and strength come from God alone.

Now, I get to live out my passion—making music and building ministry—with my family by my side: my siblings, cousins, and nephews. To me, confidence is not about being fearless, but about knowing who walks with you and standing firm in that truth.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a singer, songwriter, and the director of the Sons of Thunder band and choir. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with and sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in the Latin Gospel industry, and that journey has helped open doors for us to create and release our own original music.
What excites me the most is the ability to travel, share the gospel, and tell my story through music—especially seeing how it impacts younger generations. Music isn’t just entertainment for us; it’s ministry, and it’s powerful to watch people encounter God through it.
Right now, we’re preparing for something very special: on November 22 in Los Angeles we’ll be recording our next album. Along with new music, we’re also launching fresh merchandise and planning powerful concerts that we’re truly believing will inspire and ignite hearts.
At the end of the day, everything we do is about excellence, unity, and lifting up the name of Jesus.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that had the greatest impact on my journey were work ethic, accountability, and discipline. Work ethic taught me that nothing worthwhile comes without sacrifice and dedication. Accountability kept me grounded—having people around me who could speak truth into my life and hold me to a higher standard made all the difference. Discipline helped me push through moments when I didn’t feel motivated, and it allowed me to stay focused on the bigger picture.
For anyone starting out, my biggest piece of advice is: be consistent. Talent will open doors, but consistency is what keeps them open. Stay faithful to the process even when you don’t see immediate results. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you but also challenge you. And don’t forget to take small steps every day toward your goals—those daily habits add up to lasting impact.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

In different seasons of my life, it’s been different people who have helped me overcome challenges and grow. I believe God places people in our lives with purpose. My family has definitely played a huge role—especially my mother, who never gave up on me and continually spoke life and words of affirmation over me.
Along the way, I was also shaped by teachers, coaches, and mentors who invested in me. One person who stands out is my dearest college professor, Dr. Joanna Medawar Nachef. She was instrumental in helping me spread my wings and fly, both as an artist and as a person.
Each of these influences left a mark on me, and I carry their lessons with me into everything I do today.
