Meet Sandra Gannon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Gannon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sandra, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

In 2008, when I visited the village of Bakka, Uganda, I witnessed 100 children at a school suffering from malnutrition, lice, worms, and jiggers, all treatable diseases. Many of the older children’s eyes were lifeless; they had given up. After seeing this, I promised God and the children that I would work every day to improve their lives. It is a promise I have faithfully kept for 15 years.
Kisoboka became an official 501c3 in 2015 . We now manage seven projects in the village of Bakka: Education, Medical, Community Development, Small business Investment and training, and Providing Justice in partnership with IJM, a church and sponsorship program.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Co-founding Kisoboka has brought me overwhelming joy. Loving the village of Bakka has become a passion; it is personal. I know the people. I’ve watched children grow up to be successful adults. Kisoboka has provided hope where there was no hope. We have the best academic schools in the Wakiso District and are working on improving the school buildings. And fences for security for our students. We are planning to add a dental office at our medical center.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My strong work ethic, determination to succeed, and not afraid to ask questions!

Never give up! There will always be challenges. Always have a plan B and sometimes a plan C. Always do your investigative research and ask questions.
The name of our organization is Kisoboka, which is Lugandan “It is Possible” Matthew 19:26 .

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

I am one of eight children. Growing up, we were not rich financially, but we were rich in love. Our friends were always welcomed and treated like family. There was always room in our home and plenty of laughter and love. They taught me to love everyone always.
