Meet Sandra Moreland

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Moreland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sandra, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care can be tough. As a mom, wife, employee, and business owner, it can be hard to make time. However, over the years, with help from personal development though deepening my yoga practice and also from some coaching, I’m more aware of how important it is to be able to handle the busy times, and more importantly, the highs and lows that life throws at us.

Also, in 2024 I am launching Finding Balance with Sandra, a Podcast where I will talk with others and have real conversations navigating day-to-day life and finding balance through the ups and downs.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I moved to Hutto, where I own a yoga studio, in 2000 when it was still a small town. I remember the population sign still said 640, we had one gas station, one restaurant, no big named stores, and Austin seemed so far away. Today, there are 30,000+ people, multiple big name stores and eateries, as well as several locally owned business that make Hutto special.

In 2021, after teaching yoga at a studio in Round Rock, an opportunity came up to open a studio in Hutto, and after careful consideration, Finding Balance was born. We opened for our first class on March 28, 2022.

We have met several amazing people since opening, and continue to see new faces every day. We have exciting plans for growth and we are hopeful that 2024 is the year that we open our wellness space that will include a meditation room, sauna, offer massage and acupuncture, as well as a space for our Yoga Teacher Training.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Throughout my adult life I became focused on personal development where I read lots of books and began making some mindset shifts. I also became focused on my physical and mental well-being.

Part of this was getting some coaching. In one particular coaching program, I learned about the difference in Self-Care, Self-Compassion, and Self-Comfort. There is a place for all of them, but it’s important to know the difference and which is being used and when. Then, I found my way to yoga. I practiced for a couple of years, went through teacher training, and then opened a space to share this practice with others.

When things are hard, it’s easy to fall into self-comfort of zoning out on the couch playing on my phone, and that’s okay, but I can’t forget about my self-care. A big part of my self-care is yoga. Whether I’m teaching a class, or practicing, it gives me a connection to myself. It moves my body, helps regulate my breath, and gives me time for stillness.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
A lot of us are running on fumes. We go from sun up to sun down. We are stressed, overwhelmed, overworked, and under-slept. Taking an hour out of your day to do something good for yourself is just not a priority. And, sometimes, it doesn’t even seem possible. The willingness to decide to do something for your physical and mental health will pay off and help overcome the difficult days.
