We were lucky to catch up with Sandra Weir recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sandra, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I kinda stumbled into my purpose by accident. I always knew I wanted to run my own business and had a bunch of ideas. Then I helped out with kids at a few weddings and realized—wow, there’s actually a real need for this! Not just for weddings, but for any big event where couples wanna enjoy the day without stressing over the little ones.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a Mexican immigrant—I came to the U.S. in 2014, right after graduating college with a degree in Nutrition. I started working with kids back then, and no matter what I did, they were always a part of my life. Taking care of them, playing, planning activities—it’s just what I love to do.
My business is pretty unique. We give couples the luxury of having experienced, professional nannies caring for the most important people in their lives. Whether it’s the kids of the bride and groom or little ones in the wedding party, we show up as one of the most valuable assets on the big day.
We don’t just bring a bunch of toys (handpicked for the ages we’re watching), but my team and I are all CPR-certified, carry a first aid kit, and are ready for anything. What excites me the most is making the day just as special for the kids—while giving the bride, groom, and parents the chance to truly enjoy the wedding, stress-free.
We’re based in Westchester, NY, but we’ll travel pretty much anywhere in NY, NJ, and CT!
We also just launched our website, where you can find all the details about me, my nanny career, my team, and our packages: https://www.theweddingnannynyc.com.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Organization and focus have been game-changers for me. Balancing a full-time job while running a business isn’t easy, so I’ve had to be super intentional with my time. I try to set specific times for things like following up with clients, creating content for my Instagram, sending contracts, and scheduling video calls before the wedding.
When it comes to the actual nannying side of things, staying alert is everything. Even though we have tons of experience with kids, a wedding is a totally new environment for them—and for us. We have to be tuned in to their needs, ready to problem-solve on the spot, and sometimes make things work with limited resources.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
My ideal collaboration is with wedding planners since they’re usually the main point of contact for brides—who are our most common clients. I’d love for planners to help highlight our service as a must-have for any wedding with kids. I truly believe it’s essential for making the day smoother for everyone!
I’m always open to new ideas and happy to travel anywhere within a reasonable driving distance. if you’re reading this, I am looking forward to connecting with many of you soon!
