We were lucky to catch up with Sandy Pierre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sandy, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I discovered my purpose through a lot of trial and error. I always knew I had a gift for connecting people, but I didn’t realize it could be the foundation of a career. I worked at plenty of companies outside my ideal field, yet I naturally became the person who connected the dots—whether that meant recommending the perfect host for an event or introducing a brand to a new opportunity, I always had a go-to contact. But too often, I was the only one in the room who looked like me. That’s when it hit me: I wanted to create spaces where my community could be seen, celebrated, and given the same opportunities as everyone else. I found myself going to sleep and waking up thinking about how I could be of service to my people—and that’s when I knew I had found my calling

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am currently a Brand Partnerships Lead at Refinery29 Unbothered. I help brands, creatives, and communities find meaningful ways to work together—whether that’s through partnerships, events, or storytelling. But what makes it exciting is that it’s never just business to me—it’s personal. I get to bring people into rooms they never imagined they’d be in, amplify voices that deserve to be heard, and create opportunities that can truly change lives. The most special part? Watching someone thrive because a door I helped open led to their next big moment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Networking, intuition and storytelling as two other key qualities that have shaped your journey. I’ve been able to nurture real relationships, that’s helped me unlock opportunities, build trust, and stay top of mind in rooms that matter. There were so many times I didn’t have all the answers, but I had a feeling—and I followed it. That inner voice led me to leave jobs that weren’t aligned, pitch bold ideas, and create spaces for my community. And storytelling? That’s how I’ve made people care. Whether I’m pitching a partnership, curating an event, or writing a brand recap—I always come back to the why.
If I could give any advice to someone early in their journey, it would be this: Build real relationships, not just contacts. Networking isn’t about clout—it’s about community. Be intentional and consistent, and nurture the connections that matter. At the same time, trust your gut. Your intuition will guide you before any job title or strategy ever will—so don’t be afraid to move when something feels right, even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else. And finally, don’t sleep on the power of storytelling. Your story is your superpower. Whether you’re pitching an idea or introducing yourself in a room, lead with the “why,” and let people feel your passion. That’s how you stand out.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents ever did for me was give me the freedom to find my passion and purpose on my own. As the child of immigrant parents, it’s common for your future to be mapped out for you before you even have a chance to dream it yourself—usually in a career that promises financial security or involves a trade. But I was lucky. My parents didn’t push me into a path I didn’t want. Instead, they gave me room to explore what I loved and figure out what felt right for me. That freedom is what ultimately led me to where I am today.
