Meet Sangita Ganesan

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sangita Ganesan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sangita, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

Optimism likely stems from innate ability to see beauty and potential in every situation, As an Event designer I transform spaces into something magical which reflects my belief with effort and creativity. Anything can be improved or made extraordinary. This mindset, combined with the joy that i bring to others, reinforces a positive outlook on life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

From an early age, I developed an innate appreciation for the art of design—fascinated by the harmony of colors, the interplay of textures, and the profound ability of a space to evoke emotion. This passion became the foundation of my creative journey. However, it was only when I ventured into the professional world of décor that I truly recognized the limitless potential of my craft.

My initial foray into design began with interior spaces, where I honed my ability to curate environments that told stories and created immersive experiences. While this path was deeply fulfilling, I yearned for a more dynamic and transformative avenue—one that challenged conventional boundaries and allowed for greater creative expression. This aspiration led me to the world of event décor, a realm where every detail, every selection, and every artistic decision has the power to completely redefine an atmosphere.

Fueled by an unwavering passion and an insatiable curiosity, I embraced décor not just as a profession but as an ever-evolving creative pursuit. I became captivated by the endless possibilities—exploring emerging trends, experimenting with innovative techniques, and seamlessly blending diverse influences to craft truly bespoke experiences. The deeper I delved, the more I realized the extraordinary potential of merging aesthetics, culture, and emotion to create something truly unforgettable.

What once was a personal passion soon became the driving force behind my professional ambitions. No longer was it simply about beautifying spaces; it was about pioneering new design concepts and redefining the art of event styling. I viewed each project as an opportunity to push creative boundaries—integrating my love for artistry, design, and storytelling into seamless, emotionally resonant experiences.

With a clear vision and unwavering determination, I took a bold step forward and established Forever Flower Events—a business dedicated to transforming dreams into reality through innovative event décor. This endeavor allowed me to not only refine my craft but also collaborate with like-minded creatives, experiment with cutting-edge materials, and stay at the forefront of industry trends. My mission was clear: to elevate event décor to new heights by continuously challenging norms and re-imagining what’s possible.

Every day, I approach my work with a relentless pursuit of excellence—embracing the latest advancements, techniques, and inspirations that enhance my artistry. My commitment to innovation and meticulous attention to detail have set me apart, positioning me as a leader in the décor industry. More than a profession, my journey is a lifelong commitment to creativity, exploration, and the pursuit of excellence.

The passion that ignited my love for design has now evolved into a dedication to pushing artistic boundaries and redefining the possibilities of event décor. I welcome every new challenge with enthusiasm, knowing that each project presents an opportunity to inspire, transform, and leave a lasting impact on those who experience my work.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, I recognize three fundamental qualities, skills, and areas of expertise that have been instrumental in shaping my career and success:

1. Passion and Perseverance
A deep-seated passion for design has been the driving force behind my journey, sustaining me even through challenges. Whether in interior design or event décor, my love for creating aesthetically captivating spaces has kept me focused, motivated, and committed. Equally important has been perseverance—the resilience to push forward despite obstacles and remain steadfast in my vision.

Advice for aspiring professionals: Cultivate and nurture your passion—it will serve as the foundation of your success. Passion makes the journey fulfilling, but perseverance ensures progress. Challenges are inevitable, but persistence will lead you to the rewards that lie beyond the hurdles.

2. Creativity and Innovation
Design is a constantly evolving field, and the ability to think creatively and embrace innovation is what sets one apart. Combining traditional design principles with fresh, forward-thinking ideas has allowed me to stay ahead of industry trends and craft distinctive, memorable experiences. Experimenting with new materials, color palettes, and design techniques has been essential in refining my artistic approach.

Advice for aspiring professionals: Step outside your comfort zone and embrace experimentation. True innovation does not stem from following trends but from pioneering new ones. Challenge yourself to think differently, take creative risks, and continuously evolve your style. The more you explore, the more refined and distinctive your artistic voice will become.

3. Business Acumen
While creativity is at the core of my work, a strong foundation in business has been critical in transforming my passion into a thriving enterprise. Mastering essential business aspects—client relations, budgeting, contracts, and marketing—has enabled me to scale and sustain my business successfully. The ability to balance artistic vision with strategic decision-making has been key to long-term success.

Advice for aspiring professionals: Develop a strong understanding of the business side of your craft. Creativity alone is not enough; financial literacy, marketing expertise, and client management skills are crucial for sustaining a successful career. Invest time in learning these areas and seek mentorship from experienced professionals. A well-rounded skill set that blends creativity with business strategy will set you apart in any industry.

Final Thoughts
For those embarking on their journey, I encourage you to stay curious, be patient with yourself, and embrace both the creative process and the challenges of building a business. Every experience—whether a success or a setback—contributes to your growth. The journey itself is just as valuable as the destination.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m feeling stressed from work, here are a few things I can try to manage the pressure:

I can pinpoint what’s causing the stress, whether it’s tight deadlines, a heavy workload, difficult colleagues, or something else. Knowing exactly what’s stressing me out helps me address it more directly.

I can tackle one thing at a time by breaking larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks. Completing each task gives me a sense of accomplishment and reduces the overwhelming feeling.

I should learn to say no when I’m already at capacity. Setting limits on what I can take on helps me avoid burnout.
Creating a work-life balance is important, so I can set a time to stop working each day and allow myself to fully disconnect.

If I can, I’ll delegate tasks or ask for help from colleagues. It’s okay to share the workload.

I can take a few minutes throughout the day to practice mindfulness, which helps ground me and clear my mind.
Breathing exercises can help me relax and reduce the immediate stress I might be feeling.

Even a short walk or some stretching can help release tension and improve my mood. Physical activity helps my body and mind reset.

Talking to a friend or colleague can also help me feel heard and supported.

I need to remind myself that everyone experiences stress. It’s okay to not have everything perfect, and I’m doing the best I can.

Taking short breaks even for a few minutes, can help reset my focus and reduce stress.
