Meet Saniya Jain

We were lucky to catch up with Saniya Jain recently and have shared our conversation below.

Saniya, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I grew up in a society where perfection was always worshipped and I wasn’t perfect. My parents inculcated a sense of confidence in me ever since I was a kid, that it’s okay to be different as long as I’m comfortable. They made sure I knew that I’m never going to be the best at everything but as long as I can make sure I’m always giving it my best, I’ll thrive! There were so many instances when the outcomes of my actions were less than desirable, however, at every step, they reminded me that failure is just another step towards success. I remember something my mom always said to me, “If you fail, you’re still going to be my lovely daughter, my love for you won’t change, but what’s important is to know that even if you fail at something, it just shows that you’re still trying and every time you try, you learn something new and the outcome will be different one step at a time.” As an adult, I did not realize that these sentiments were so deep rooted in me that at every junction in my life, all I knew was to keep going no matter what. I keep using that confidence as fuel and tell myself that as long as I keep trying, I will be better tomorrow; one day at a time!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I own an event planning business in the Greater Seattle area. As a kid, I was always fascinated by anything that is colorful and artistic. I have been drawing and painting since I was 7 years old. My love for art started showing when I was helping my mom with her freelance business as a makeup artist while I was an undergrad student. I came to the US to pursue my Master’s degree and somehow my artistic side started getting away from me. I was working as a professional on a visa that did not allow me to conduct any business. A few years ago, as my immigration status changed, I found an opportunity to start a business combining my love for art and my passion for being creative. About 3 years ago, I hosted a couple of events celebrating a few Indian festivals where I discovered my skill and passion for cooking and decoration. I’ve been a foodie all my life and I intend to share my cooking and sense of decor with as many people I can . It gives me immense pleasure to take a raw idea, build on it and bring that vision to life!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Know your clients – One of my biggest priorities when I plan any event is knowing and understanding what’s most important to my clients. There is a balance that I try to strike between what I know as a professional planner and what needs to be done from my client’s perspective. Their vision is the most important aspect in an event that needs to come to life, not always necessarily mine.

2. Focus on quality – Delivering quality services and products will always make sure that the client’s overall experience is good. I never compromise on quality.

3. Hard work – I believe that there are no shortcuts to planning an event. Focusing on the details, delivering the vision; all of these things require hard work and I always hold myself accountable for the work I do, while also making sure I am not cutting any corners.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

Currently, the challenge I am facing is with my social media reach and posts. I don’t always find the time to be able to create marketing posts and when I do, the views and reach are not very ideal.
