We recently connected with SANJAY CHANDANI and have shared our conversation below.
SANJAY, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in the legacy of my culture and the quiet strength of the artisans I grew up watching. In Jaipur, where tradition breathes through every carved block and dyed fabric, I learned that true artistry isn’t just about beauty—it’s about endurance. I saw craftspeople work through scorching summers and uncertain markets, yet never compromise on their craft. That spirit shaped me.
When I started Block Print Productions, I faced more ‘no’s than I could count—skepticism about reviving traditional methods, financial hurdles, and the constant pressure to modernize at the cost of authenticity. But I kept going, because I wasn’t just building a business—I was honoring a heritage. Every challenge became a chisel, carving out a stronger version of myself.
Resilience, for me, isn’t loud. It’s the quiet decision to show up again the next day. It’s the belief that preserving something meaningful is worth the struggle. That belief is what fuels me—and it’s woven into every thread of what we create

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Sanjay Chandani , and I’m the founder of Block Print Productions—a creative studio rooted in the timeless art of hand block printing. Based in Jaipur INDIA, our work is a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship, and storytelling through textiles.
My journey began with a deep admiration for the artisans of Rajasthan, whose hands carry generations of knowledge and culture. I was drawn to the rhythm of the blocks, the earthy scent of natural dyes, and the quiet dignity of a craft that has endured for centuries. What started as a personal fascination soon grew into a mission: to preserve this heritage while giving it a fresh, contemporary voice.
At Block Print Productions, we create handcrafted textiles, home décor, and wearable art that blend traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. Each piece is made in collaboration with skilled artisans—many of whom are women and members of artisan families—ensuring that their stories and livelihoods are woven into every design. What makes our work special is the soul behind it. In a world of fast fashion and mass production, we offer something slower, more intentional, and deeply human.
Professionally, I’m focused on expanding our impact—both creatively and socially. We’re currently working on a new capsule collection that fuses block printing with regional embroidery styles, in partnership with a women-led cooperative. It’s a project close to my heart, as it brings together two powerful traditions and supports economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
We’re also exploring sustainable practices more deeply—experimenting with plant-based dyes, zero-waste design, and educational workshops to engage younger generations in the craft. For me, Block Print Productions isn’t just a brand—it’s a movement to honor the past, empower the present, and inspire the future.
I want people to know that when they choose our work, they’re not just buying a product—they’re becoming part of a story. A story of resilience, beauty, and cultural pride.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities have been especially impactful in my journey with Block Print Productions
perseverance, cultural empathy, and creative adaptability.
– Perseverance: Building something meaningful—especially in the arts and crafts space—requires a deep well of patience and grit. There were times when orders were delayed, collaborations fell through, or the market felt indifferent. But I learned that consistency beats intensity. My advice to those starting out: don’t romanticize the hustle, but do honor the process. Show up every day, even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
– Cultural empathy: Working with traditional artisans taught me that success isn’t just about innovation—it’s about respect. Understanding the cultural roots of block printing, listening to the stories of the craftspeople, and honoring their rhythms and values helped me build trust and authenticity into the brand. For anyone beginning their journey, I’d say: immerse yourself in the world you want to impact. Learn its language, its history, its people. That’s where real connection—and real creativity—comes from.
– Creative adaptability: The world changes fast. Trends shift, markets evolve, and sometimes your original vision needs to bend without breaking. I’ve had to learn how to evolve our designs, rethink our business model, and embrace new technologies—all while staying true to our core. My advice: stay curious. Read widely, travel when you can, and surround yourself with people who challenge your thinking. Flexibility isn’t a compromise—it’s a superpower.
Ultimately, these qualities weren’t things I was born with—they were muscles I had to build. And I’m still building them. That’s the beauty of the journey: it’s never really finished.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always open to soulful collaborations—especially with stylists, boutique owners, cultural curators, and textile lovers who believe in slow fashion and emotionally resonant design.
> I’m looking to connect with people who value storytelling through garments, who see textiles as memory keepers, and who want to co-create pieces that honor heritage while embracing modern elegance.
> Retailers and wholesaler’s looking to showcase garments, heritage-rich textiles and home décor.
