Meet Sanket Dikshit

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sanket Dikshit. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sanket, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
While we think that inspiration at times looks a lot like copying, it is true that the line between inspiration and copying is very thin. When I want to shoot something, this is what my process looks like. I look at images made by artists who I draw inspiration from and then dig deep into my own life so far. It could have been an event in my life, it could be something that I’ve seen or it could have been something I read somewhere. Me being the sole witness to my life events, no one else has seen them the way I did. No one else would perceive a piece or an article exactly how I would. and then I make that into an image and translate it into the digital medium, thus producing original work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We at Sanket Photography believe in telling stories through pictures. We find immense joy when the viewer feels exactly how we want them to on seeing an image. That feeling felt makes the image a success. We specialize in portraits and all our pictures have a human element in them. We constantly create or experiment and have a few exciting projects in the pipeline.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being an architect for 11 years of my life before diving into photography as a profession, my sense of design played a huge role in my understanding of successful imagery. While equipment, lighting, digitals, etc, play an important part, composition plays an equally vital role. I believe that knowing your gear is immensely important. I cannot stress on how important it is to understand the pulse of your equipment so that when it behaves in a way in which you don’t want it to, you know exactly what to fix and don’t lose time on shoots.
Experimentation helped me to break from the comfort zone of standard imagery and hence I stick to it till date. The first idea is often as good broken down into elements and there have been times when it has been discarded after weeks of refining.
My advice to the people new in the field would be to eat, breathe, drink and sleep their art for it becomes more polished with each day that you give to it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My transition from architect to photographer signifies a significant change. While I spent years shaping buildings, a deeper desire stirred within me. Photography emerged as my refuge, sparking a passion beyond architectural confines. Each photo captured emotions, offering freedom to tell stories beyond blueprints. Despite responsibilities, I yearned for authenticity. With unwavering parental support, I ventured into uncertainty, anchored by their love. Now, a few years into the field, their belief and love still continue to guide me. My journey reflects the influence of love, the pursuit of passion, and the resilience of dreams. Their support remains my constant and the single most important factor, shaping my path and fueling my success.
