We were lucky to catch up with Santyanna Webb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Santyanna, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I would say I get my resilience from my mother and grandmother. My mother was killed March 11, 2011, and my grandmother passed away January 4, 2014. They were 2 of the strongest women I knew. I was only 14 years old when my mother was killed, and the journey has been extremely difficult. I knew that no matter what happened I could not give up. My mother and grandmother always instilled in me that there is nothing I can not do. I live by that every day. I have no choice but to be resilient because greatness requires resilience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My thought process behind starting my own business started at a very young age for me. At the age of 14, I lost my mother to gun violence. Life as I knew it changed in the blink of an eye. As a child, no matter how you lost your mother it is a very dark, lonely place. I know oh so well how hard the journey without your mother can be mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I also know that there are so many kids & teenagers all around the world that is experiencing this same pain and suffering. So, I created Millennials Without Mothers. Millennials Without Mothers was created for the youth that have also their mother. My mission is to help the youth learn how to deal with the pain to eliminate the suffering. My goal and commitment is to do my best to turn their pain into power. My ultimate end goal is to open a youth center. “The Greatness Center for Millennials Without Mothers” The Greatness Center will be a place for the youth to come & know that they are not alone. The Greatness Center’s purpose is to empower & provide continuous support for motherless kids. The loss of my mother at a very young age was tragic and heartbreaking, but I knew that I had to use what I had been through to make a difference in this world. My difference is to give back to the youth. The youth is our future, and I am going to make sure that their future is filled with greatness.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey is resilience, patience, and positivity. Challenging times will come but with those three qualities you can make it through anything. The advice I have for people that are early in their journey in terms of how they can improve on these is to practice being resilient, patient, and positive every day. The more you practice it the easier it becomes.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with others that want to create a positive impact for the youth. It truly takes a village and it is amazing to have a group of people that wants to pour into the youth. They can connect with me via Instagram @millennialswithoutmothers or via email Santyannaw@gmail.com.
