We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Saquita Acree a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Saquita with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents . Both of my parents were driven, hard working people and I learned very early on how important what you put into yourself will flow out into your work environment. If you work hard it will build and guide you into bigger and better avenues.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Imperial Shots is an Atlanta based company that specializes in natural photography. I love capturing your true essence without all of the crazy staged looks or poses as most photographers have you give . Being yourself, having fun while doing the photos and capturing moments that are unseen are the best photos. This is what gives essence to the images and you make the backdrop for the photo! This is what sets Imperial Shots apart from all the other photography companies. We take ‘You’ and make that our complete background. Every photo tells a story and it’s a story that is shared for many years to come.
Imperial Shots specializes in wedding photography, capturing your most precious intimate moments from beginning to end. Captivating every small detail that most might overlook is our specialty. We also do everyday photography, I have worked with many nonprofit organizations, churches and even was a nightclub photographer for two different clubs. So basically, I tap into it all and I’m extremely proud and grateful to be able to do this, still as hobby but also a a career.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back when I started, which was 20 years ago as just as hobby. I would say that reading was one of the best things that got me going in learning everything about photography. I stayed checking out library books and reading magazines and just feeding my brain with as much information as possible. I took my camera everywhere with me! You didn’t see me without it. At first I started taking photos of nature, random odd things that was fascinating to me, people that was just being themselves. This was astonishing to me and beautiful at the same time.
Then I moved on to eventually discovering true photography with taking children photography. Kids are a different breed when it comes to photography but the most fun and exciting photography you can imagine. As I grew, my skills grew, as my skills grew, then I built a company.
In photography there are different categories of photography and once you learn your niche of what sparks you, that’s what makes you a brilliant and talented artist in photography.
Now, there are many tools out there that can branch your learning curve, but the best tool, is still reading and educating yourself. Find what excites you about photography and that will make you the best photographer ever!!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I get overwhelmed, I love to go the water and just sit for hours in my thoughts. When I do this it helps me regroup. It is something about me and nature that brings me back grounded. It’s the serene, calm peace that surrounds me .
Finding your inner peace is always key to getting through adversities in life.
