We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sara Credito a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
That’s an interesting term, “finding your purpose.” I think that my purpose, (and others might share this sentiment), evolves and grows with us. The gifts that we have at one point in our lives morph into something different later in life, but still retain the fundamental traits deep within us.
My experience, as I look back was creativity and imagination. In high school I wrote: poems, stories, and even won a national writing contest. That was my creative outlet. Later in life, I thrived in a career with a Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical Company. I was fortunate enough to be hired, despite my lack of experience or background. But, my creativity, writing skills, presentation skills, and the ability to make instant connections to others, surfaced. This became the corner stone to my success. This was particularly important on the occasions where I conducted a training sessions with new representatives, or presented a new drug to a group pf physicians. It was often said by these groups that I made “clinical studies interesting and fun.” Capturing the attention of our targeted audience is critical before we can begin to demonstrate what we intend to share with them.
Fast forward, and retiring early after relocating to beautiful Pawleys Island, S.C., I probably drifted for a while, uncertain of my direction. . But then suddenly the “purpose” surfaced again, Still creative, using interesting verbiage, but now another element gets added to my purpose: Art. This was shocking to me, but not to some of my former colleagues. The wine glasses that I personalized for hostesses that I gifted when going to dinner parties were such a hit. They were humorous and specific to their recipient’s. They were photographed professionally, and it was suggested that the images could be transitioned into greeting cards. It was this opportunity, and a charity that my husband and I founded in our state, “Paint It Forward,” that resulted in several T.V. appearances on Low Country Live in Charleston, as well as many local and regional interviews.
Canvases came next. So many of my art collectors say that the titles, and written sentiment’s of my paintings are loved as much as the art itself. Quite a departure from medical terms, structured meetings, and corporate life.
So, to wrap up the original question, the purpose shifted, perhaps in direct opposition to where it began. The fact that it manifests differently over time doesn’t change it’s core or what’s within us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I paint, I’m an artist. I’ve been on several sites. I also give back to the community and worthy causes locally and regionally. I’ve been the featured artist early in my career in Hampton, Virginia at the Stockley Art Festival, benefiting the Hope Foundation. I was also the featured artist for the Tidelands Breast Center Foundation, and the Center for Domestic Violence in Georgetown, S.C., among others.
For the most part I paint for the sheer joy of it. Most of my painting sell through word of mouth, and it’s not unusual to find people returning again and again as my new works are introduced, It’s highly rewarding, and provides me with a wonderful outlet where I can get lost in my paintings for hours.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The qualities are the skills that are for the most part born within us. Fear can be a great detractor. Having encouraged people to paint for the sheer fun of it, it’s always shocking to some when their hidden talents are revealed. I did a few art therapy sessions where I’d do a little art lesson, and I partnered with a therapist. It was one of the most rewarding experiences for the participants and for me! The release some of them experienced was amazing. These sessions were done with adults and children,
So my advice to anyone who is heading for a new journey is “let go,” indulge your passions, and do what you love, and are drawn to. It may not just launch your career, but inspire someone else,

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Great Question: My favorite saying about my paintings is “Art With Heart.”
The most gratifying thing with art is the emotion that it evokes. I’ve only had a little over a decades experience in this field, but the beauty of it for me is how it makes others feel. When someone tells you that they meditate as they gaze at your painting, or that they find it healing, or how it’s a “conversation starter,” no monetary reward can topple that feeling. So, although I don’t necessarily need a partner, I encourage folks to dive in and feel free to ask me for any advice as they start out. If I had carte blanche to create a new forum, I would form an artistic platform in the purist sense. A group free of the typical “vanity” art sites that the internet is flush with. A venue where people can explore their artistic talents, and perhaps even help others heal, grow, and thrive. Medical Centers. and even help centers for adults and children. These are lofty goals, I know, but I can dream.
