Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Geist. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sara, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through a deep love for creativity, connection, and the desire to make people feel their best. From the moment I picked up my first pair of shears, I knew that hairstyling was more than just a career for me—it was a way to empower others and help them express their individuality. Growth and Grit Salon was born out of that passion, blending my commitment to artistry with a focus on sustainability and authenticity.
Creating a space where clients feel heard, supported, and confident in their own skin is what drives me every day. My purpose is rooted in offering more than just great hair; it’s about building relationships, providing expert guidance, and fostering an environment where beauty and sustainability go hand in hand. Whether it’s through thoughtful consultations, using eco-friendly Davines products, or simply sharing a laugh with clients, I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At Growth and Grit Salon, I specialize in creating effortless, lived-in styles that empower my clients to feel confident and beautiful every day. My focus is on providing a personalized experience through honest consultations, expert techniques, and a commitment to sustainability. Using Davines and Comfort Zone products, I bring high-quality, eco-conscious haircare to my clients, ensuring they not only look great but feel good about the products they’re using.
What excites me most about my work is the connection I build with each client. Whether it’s transforming their look with a fresh cut and color or educating them on how to maintain their style between visits, I love being part of their journey. Growth and Grit isn’t just about hair—it’s about creating a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and inspired.
I’m also thrilled about some exciting things happening at the salon! This quarter, I’m offering 20% off all Comfort Zone products, making it easier for clients to experience sustainable, salon-quality skincare. Plus, I’m featuring Blue Door Bodyworks, another fantastic local small business, in my latest edition of the G&G Quarterly. As always, I’m focused on growing my community and continuing to provide a space where clients feel supported—whether it’s through their hair goals or just taking a moment to unwind.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, continuous learning, and authenticity.
Resilience has been crucial in navigating the ups and downs of building my salon. Whether it’s adapting to industry changes, balancing work-life demands, or overcoming setbacks, staying committed to my vision has been key. My advice? Stay patient, embrace challenges, and remember why you started. Every obstacle is an opportunity to grow.
Continuous learning has also played a huge role. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and staying educated—whether through advanced training, product knowledge, or business development—has helped me stay ahead. I encourage those starting out to invest in their education, seek mentorship, and stay curious. There’s always something new to discover that can take your craft to the next level.
Lastly, authenticity has been the foundation of my success. Clients appreciate real connections, and being true to myself and my values—especially in promoting sustainability with brands like Davines and Comfort Zone—has helped me build a loyal community. My advice? Define what makes you unique and lean into it. When you create a space that reflects who you are, the right people will find you.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! I’m always excited to collaborate with like-minded individuals and businesses that align with my values of sustainability, self-care, and community. Whether you’re a local business looking to cross-promote, an event planner interested in adding a touch of beauty to your gatherings, or a fellow creative who shares a passion for eco-conscious beauty, I’d love to explore ways we can work together.
I’m particularly interested in partnering with local businesses that focus on wellness, sustainability, and self-care, as well as influencers and content creators who are passionate about high-quality, environmentally-friendly products like Davines and Comfort Zone.
