Meet Sara Naheedy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Naheedy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sara, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Growing up with immigrant parents, I saw the way they navigated the constant challenges of being foreigners in a country where most people do not look or sound like you. As a young adult, I faced bullying from kids at school for being the daughter of immigrants. I saw how my parents took the word no as a stepping stone for the possibility and likelihood of a future yes. As an adult, I know that I cannot always win or get a favorable outcome in every situation. But, I also know that it is always possible to learn, improve and make the best of a less than ideal situation.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In my profession, I work as a real estate attorney and broker. I advise individuals, businesses, landlords, and real estate investors on how to navigate the landscape of ever changing real estate laws, transactions, litigation and how to avoid litigation ideally. I use my real estate broker license in my practice advising landlords, and businesses on how be compliant with the laws and complete the sale and purchase of residential and commercial properties. I love helping people through challenging times, leading with empathy and integrity. The best part of my job as an attorney and advisor is when a client becomes a personal friend.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three most impactful qualities in my journey as an attorney are staying calm under pressure, being empathetic, and having integrity. I think many people think of lawyers as being unscrupulous, so having integrity, honesty, and doing the right thing for the clients are how I operate everyday of my career. I also have developed the skill of staying calm and maintaining inner peace when situations become stressful and overwhelming. I think a daily meditation practice has helped me tremendously in developing my inner calm and would highly recommend incorporating meditation into your daily schedule.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I think the biggest area of growth and improvement in the last year has been my ability to develop business and hone in on my networking abilities. I think as professionals we are typically not taught in school how to develop business, nurture client relationships and market ourselves in the world. I think it’s important to find a mentor who can help you to best navigate how to present yourself as a professional, where and how to network, and learn how to develop business as a business owner.
