Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Salem . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sara , so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
To overcome or avoid burnout as an artist, I prioritize my wellness and inner peace. I regularly attend and facilitate wellness retreats, engage in activities like sound baths, meditation, and yoga, and commit to a consistent workout routine, which helps me maintain balance and prevent burnout.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the co-founder of Phiphi Artland, head of fine arts, and art teacher at Graphica Art School, I’m deeply passionate about the transformative power of art. With over 12 years of teaching experience across Africa, Asia, and the USA, I’ve honed my belief in the remedial abilities of art from a holistic perspective. My journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2011, followed by certifications in yoga (200 RYT), Reiki (level II), and art therapy.
My focus lies in creating murals and teaching art, where I find immense joy in witnessing the smiles on my customers’ and students’ faces. I believe in the power of art to heal, inspire, and connect people, and I’m dedicated to sharing this passion through my work at Phiphi Artland and Graphica Art School.
As for new developments,I’ll be judging in art competitions this summer and will have an art exhibition at Graphica.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and workshops where I’ll continue to explore the intersection of art, wellness, and education, enriching lives through creativity and self-expression.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience: In teaching art, patience has been invaluable. It’s essential to understand that learning and growth take time, and everyone progresses at their own pace. Patience allows you to provide support and guidance to your students without feeling frustrated or discouraged. Advice: For those early in their journey, cultivating patience involves recognizing that progress takes time and embracing the learning process. Practice mindfulness to stay present and patient, and remind yourself that every step forward, no matter how small, is valuable.
Passion: Passion fuels creativity and drives us to pursue our goals with enthusiasm and dedication. Without passion, the work can feel mundane and uninspired. It’s what keeps us motivated during challenges and setbacks.
Advice: To develop passion, explore different aspects of your craft and find what truly excites and inspires you. Dive deep into subjects that spark your curiosity and invest time in activities that bring you joy. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your passion and can offer support and encouragement.
Consistency: Consistency is key to achieving long-term success. It’s about showing up every day, putting in the work, and staying committed to your goals, even when faced with obstacles or distractions.
Advice: Cultivate consistency by establishing routines and setting realistic goals. Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and prioritize consistency over perfection. Celebrate your progress along the way, and remember that small actions repeated consistently lead to significant results.
Overall, my advice to those early in their journey is to embrace patience, nurture their passion, and prioritize consistency. These qualities will not only support personal growth and development but also contribute to long-term success and fulfillment in their endeavors.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My husband and business partner have been the most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and develop essential skills. As an artist and music producer himself, he provides invaluable support, motivation, and encouragement, pushing me to continually improve and strive for excellence in my endeavors. His belief in me and our shared passion for creativity have been instrumental in my journey towards success.
