Meet Sara Scott

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sara Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sara, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose when I found myself fighting for my own life. I had just returned home from a 2 month trip to Vietnam to teach English and found myself in a health crisis. I suddenly was reactive to everything, I was down to 3 foods I could tollerate. I had a 65lb weight loss in a few months time without trying to lose weight. Chronic GI issues, panic episodes, numbness, tingling, skin issues, insomnia… on and on. My life as I knew it had come to a halt and each trip to the medical doctor left me with more drugs and more symptoms. I knew, at 20 years old, that the journey the Lord had me on to healing was not just for me. This season of life turned my whole life around and led me to my true passion and purpose, and that is helping people find freedom from the oppression of chronic illness and helping them get back to their creative, vibrant selves again!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was always interested in the “why’s” and “how’s” of the human body even as a young person. “Why did I get sick?, How does that medicine help my head when I swallowed it into my stomach?, What happens to the body right before you fall asleep?”. I also developed a passion for clean eating and body care in my teens but had no idea what was coming my way in college.
A combination of trauma, mold toxicity, severe malnutrition, parasitic infection and heavy metal toxicity left me unrecognizable after just a few short months. Through a marathon of 17 different doctors and specialists I was met with apathy, ridicule, mockery, even abuse which left me feeling more and more hopeless and with no one to advocate for me. In desperation, I began to read and research my way back to health by a trial and error process of natural and holistic therapies. It was a difficult, nearly decade long, road to recovery but I knew there was purpose in every day. I am blessed now to be able to be that advocate, having done the hard work for them, for those who were stuggling with chronic mysterious illness at the end of their rope.

I went on to complete more formal education and graduated at the top of my class with a masters degree in Complementary/Alternative Medicine and also earned a Board Certification in Colon Hydrotherapy (a therapy that was literally life-saving for me all those decades ago). Today, I own and operate a busy practice in Chippewa Township, north of Pittsburgh PA, where I have been honored to partner with thousands of clients who had struggled in the same ways I had.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Integrity, consistency and determination. When you find the thing you are passionate about and love the most, some of these come naturally. But my best advice to people would be to never give up! Don’t let what’s happening around you determine your journey. And don’t let your popsicle melt while you’re staring at someone else’s! You have unique and valuable gifts that the world needs, and that should be what drives you! Be the same person in the light that you are in the dark and your clients and community will learn to trust you and what you have to offer.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Overwhelm is inevitable! So prepare for it. 🙂 When I start to feel overwhelmed I remember that I have been placed here with purpose and intention by a loving God who will equip those He has called.
I also have an amazing team that I can rely on for support. Don’t forget to delegate! You can’t make it work all on your own. I also rely on my family for encouragement and support and they have truly been what has allowed me to do what I do!

And, don’t’ forget to REST! Sometimes the rest is the most productive thing you can do to recharge and get back in the game with a clear head.
