Meet Sara Turk

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Turk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Sara , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Years ago, I really enjoyed photography, but it was more in the digital influencer and advertising space, not what I do now. I always knew I liked it, but it wasn’t until I needed a way to stay home with my kids, homeschool, and avoid going back to the hospital or an office job that I gave it a real shot. I was burned out from nursing and knew I needed something more flexible, something that didn’t drain me the way that kind of work did.

When I started my photography business, I honestly didn’t know if I could do it well enough to actually make money or book clients consistently but I also knew I had to at least try. And once I started working with real families, especially other moms, I realized how deeply connected I felt to the work. It wasn’t just about photos it was about helping people see meaning and beauty in their own everyday chaos. It gave me purpose in a way I didn’t expect.

Now, I truly love what I do. It fits with my life, supports my family, and feels aligned with who I am. If I have to work, this is what I want to do and that’s how I know it’s my purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a lifestyle family and newborn photographer based in Georgia, and I specialize in what I call an elevated documentary style. That just means I capture real-life moments, the honest, unposed, in-between stuff but with an artistic touch that turns it into something that feels like soulful art. Most of my sessions are either in-home or out in nature during golden hour, and I photograph everything from new babies and growing families to motherhood and everyday connection.

I’m a mom of three myself, and I know how fast it all goes. I bring that perspective into every session, especially for new parents or tired mamas who just want something meaningful.

Right now, I’m expanding more into storytelling sessions that highlight the rhythm of everyday life — drinking coffee in your kitchen, snuggling on the couch, chasing your kids barefoot through the yard.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three things that have mattered most in my journey are: taking the craft seriously, staying curious, and being relentless about the business side.

From the start, I put in a lot of time learning how to truly use my camera and understand light and emotion in an image. I soaked up everything I could from other photographers through podcasts, blogs, videos and kept practicing until it started to click.

I also spent just as much energy learning how to market myself and build systems behind the scenes. You can be talented, but if people don’t know about you, that only gets you so far.

My advice: treat it like a real business from day one. Keep learning, keep pushing, and don’t expect shortcuts. If you’re determined and consistent, it will pay off.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Honestly, my husband has been the biggest help and support through all of it. He’s been my partner for so long, not just in life, but in everything that comes with running a business and raising a family. Whether it’s jumping in to help me figure out new gear, setting something up behind the scenes, taking care of the kids so I can meet a deadline, or just adjusting his schedule to give me space to focus, he’s always there.
We’ve had to learn how to be super flexible and work together as a team, especially with everything we’ve got going on. I really couldn’t do any of this without him. It’s not always perfect or smooth, but we figure it out together—and that makes all the difference.
