We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Alysse Bobo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah Alysse , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
When I was in 4th grade my parents had me attend First Stage Children’s Theater Academy. During that time, I learned the value of improvisation, collaboration through scene work, & harmonizing through musical theater workshops. Those skills have made me into a creator, wellness warrior & leader in my company Live Well Enhance You LLC.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My company Live Well Enhance You focuses on connectivity between leadership & employees by facilitating wellness workshops that provide stress management tools & interactive improvisation sessions so that their teams can learn how to communicate better & be quicker on their feet. The end goal is to cultivate a low stress environment so that company’s employees are happier, healthier, & work more productively.
I believe in walking the walk so in addition to my business I write & perform music. Creativity is essential for personal growth and that can look differently for everyone. Currently, I’m singing & composing music for my electro-pop duo maybesoon. Recently we came out with our music video “Jump” which goes back to communication & wellness. “Jump” is very special for us as it is our first musical collaboration. We wanted to begin our musical journey by exploring emotions we have both experienced but haven’t heard represented in the music we listen to. “Jump” is an exploration of the struggles of mental health from the perspective of a loved one who desperately wants to help but doesn’t know how. It can be incredibly difficult to reach our hands out to those in need when we don’t feel equipped to handle the situation, but as we have both experienced, sometimes merely acknowledging that you recognize someone struggling can have a profound and positive impact.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Compassion, organization, & following my gut have greatly served me in the wellness space. The first two may take some time to develop but I want everyone to know that they have all the information within to make sound business decisions. In my line of work, it’s important to acknowledge what is and is not working then make adjustments when necessary. There is probably a reason you are putting your business on pause so make sure that you ask yourself the tough questions: What do I need to change to make my dreams become a reality? What fears are getting in the way of me investing in myself? How do I move forward in my business?
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Be Seen has made a huge impact on my life. An extraordinary mentor of mine, Jen Gottlieb, wrote an incredible book that has taken the guess work completely out. If you want to create a personal brand that attracts your dream audience and gets you paid I highly recommend this easy read. My favorite quote from her book that reminds me to stop playing small in my life is “show up, make mistakes, grow stronger”.
