We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Breshears a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I dont believe Imposter Syndrome is something you “overcome.” I think it’s something that you learn to live with. Brene Brown said, “Fear gets to ride in the car, but it doesn’t get to drive.” To me, imposter syndrome is rooted in fear. It’s the fear of not being good enough and everyone finding out that you don’t know what you’re talking about (even when you know more than anyone else in the room.) When we stop trying to get rid of it and realize that its just part of the process of growth, then we stop letting it drive. It will never go away as long as I continue to grow and reach for more. But, it doesn’t get to dictate my next move anymore.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Breshears.
Hi Sarah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I finished grad school, I began working in the school system in Nashville. We were given $100 for supplies and therapy materials for the entire year.
So, I began searching for “free speech therapy materials” on Pinterest. I found a free resource on a site called Teachers Pay Teachers. After scrolling through a handful of resources, I decide, “I can do this too! And I can do it better than this!” So, I quickly began creating speech therapy materials and launched my TPT store. I didn’t anticipate the social media effort it would take to support and market my digital products. Unintentionally, I first learned how to use social media strategically to build a brand and sell a product.
After working clinically as a speech-language pathologist for eight years, & in the hospital setting during COVID, I was burnt (out) to a crisp & needed something new. I was frustrated and disheartened by the lack of awareness of speech pathology and the vastness of our role. I felt like I was constantly advocating for a seat at the table to be able to help my patients. I also realized that my clinical job would never get me out of under the student loans it took to get me there.
I had people approaching me to help with their social media after seeing what I had built for my brand. I initially volunteered with a non-profit and a senate campaign, and I realized I had learned things through creating @shortandsweetspeech that not everyone else knew how to do.
I was craving change, more opportunities for financial growth, and the freedom to work from anywhere without being tied to the school or hospital when I saw someone mention being a social media manager in a Facebook group. So, I decided to change and take control… & social moguls was born on Dec. 24th, 2020.
I decided to shoot my shot with one of the largest companies in our field that had made the greatest impact on my career. I DMed the founder and asked if she needed social media support. She was an emphatic YES and immediately set up a call to discuss the details. She became my first paying SLP client.
Now, we’ve grown to a team of 6, mostly SLPs, and have expanded our offer suite significantly while honing in on our niche. We’ve expanded to include paid ads, VIP days, 1:1 coaching, IG audits, our signature course, the Serving on Social System, and several additional courses on mindset, content, launching, and marketing that I added this year. In addition to offering expansion, we’ve grown to support different disciplines, including OT, PT, Dentists, Med Spas, Veterinarians, Registered Dietitians, and Dental Hygienists. This September, we celebrated our first $54k cash month!
It is truly the greatest honor to hold the proverbial megaphone and spread the healthcare gospel to the world every day. There is life-changing work happening in our clients’ practices, and it is a privilege and my greatest joy to amplify their voices and spread their message to the masses.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Audacity. Determination. And self-leadership. I’ve never waited for someone to invite me to the table. I built my own and have continued to make room for others at the table. I’ve never waited for someone to show me the way or give me a handbook on business, marketing, or life in general. I went out and found the info I needed for myself. I don’t think anyone has ever built anything worthwhile without being a self-starter, deeply determined, and a little bit stubborn. You have to be able to lead yourself if you want to pave the way and be an authority in your niche. You have to have the audacity to believe you’re worthy and smart enough and capable. You have to have determination that says that every “no” is simply a redirection towards a “yes.” You have to decide that no matter what, you will find a way to make it happen.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is a healthcare entrepreneur who wants to make a bigger impact but feels held back by their lack of marketing knowledge and social media expertise. She needs someone who understands both the industry and modern marketing strategies. We aren’t taught business or marketing in grad school and to be honest, our field is very poorly marketed overall. My ideal client is someone who is determined to increase her income and her impact.
She wants to attract dream clients, grow her business, make social media less time-consuming, feel confident in her marketing, and establish herself as THE expert in her niche.
She is feeling overwhelmed by social media and doesn’t have time to learn marketing. She isn’t sure where to even begin with creating content, understanding algorithms, or building a marketing strategy.
She might feel uncomfortable putting herself out there and so she’s struggling to reach her ideal clients.
Deep down, she wants to overcome these fears and limiting beliefs so she can finally serve her audience in the powerful way she knows she’s capable of. And she’s ready to bet on herself to make it all happen.
