Meet Sarah Casey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Casey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Refusal of failure. That is the force that has driven me from day one! I have never let failure or quitting be an option. I always want to do better, be better, constantly improve whatever I can. I study my client photos from my work and I critique myself on what I can improve next time. I study techniques, imaging, angles etc. everything I can to improve. While I am not THE best, I want to be MY best! I was always taught that things aren’t given to you in life, one must work as hard as possible to achieve their expectations, passions and dreams. That is what I do, I will never give up on my passion and I will always work for what I want.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Let me be transparent and very personal for a moment, I believe that is important to know the story behind the artist…. I was not blessed with clear skin, I have always struggled with acne my entire life and into my adulthood. I was bullied badly for my skin and looks to the point I refused to walk out of my home without a full face of makeup at just the young age of 12! As a mom, it breaks my heart for my inner child. I never had confidence in myself because of the words that played a screeching melody in my mind on repeat for my entire life! So, I got really freaking good at makeup! It gave me confidence, it made me smile, it covered my insecurities… it was more than makeup. I wasn’t blessed with clear skin, so, I created it! That is the story of what drives the passion behind the person holding the brush! I treat every client like my closest friend, I care so much about their happiness, comfort, confidence etc. I love to accentuate their beautiful God given features in the best way possible. I love every single client and every client helps me grow in some way. It is more about the art and science behind the makeup than “just” makeup. I’m very technical with my application and I am a perfectionist, my client will not be finished until every line is crisp and defined. I study their features, I notice every detail, I ask questions and I confirm my answers because their happiness is my happiness.

I do have some exciting plans for the future, some rebranding ideas…. One must follow my Facebook to stay up to date on the latest.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My drive and refusal to give up! I remember celebrating my first 30 likes on my Facebook page and watching it grow in a short time without trying was a beautiful rebuttal to my doubts. I refuse to be stagnant and content, I will always try to be better.
My advice? Be Cautious of Contentment and Comparison is a danger zone! Growing pains.
Let me elaborate… be careful of wading in calm waters… sure, it is comfortable, easy…safe. There’s no growth there. Where do you want to be in one year, 5 years, 10 to 20? How bad do you want that? How hard are you going to work for it? Growth doesn’t occur in comfort zones, it occurs in hard work. You will absolutely reap the benefits of the effort you put into it. You get what you give!
Comparison, oh, how difficult that is! Is it stealing your joy or is it driving your work ethic? Are you growing from it or is it causing you turmoil? You are your own unique self, you have your strengths and comparing your struggles to someone else’s strengths is a red zone, stay out of the red zone!
Lastly, Growing Pains…. Whew, those sure do hurt in the process. You’re learning, you’re seeing what works for you and what doesn’t, you’re seeing the hardships, the lulls, the stagnant seasons. Don’t quit! I promise the reward is greater in waiting.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Honestly, my husband has been my backbone! He truly is the voice of encouragement in my mind. Being a perfectionist, I get in my head… A LOT! I voice my concerns, my insecurities, to my husband and he reassures me in so many ways. He has been supportive from day one! I will mention an add on component to my license, more schooling, new gear or products and the next thing I know he is already researching what I have mentioned in passing. I love that about him, he never lets my insecurities take over, he will always override them with words of encouragement or pushing me to the next milestone in my career. I absolutely would not be where I am without him!
