meet Sarah Coleman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Coleman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I recently looked up the definition of optimism … here is what it states:

“Optimism is a mental attitude characterized by hope and confidence in success and a positive future. Optimists tend to view hardships as learning experiences or temporary setbacks. Even the most down day holds the promise for them that “tomorrow will be better.”

Optimism comes from the heart – the true belief that things will be ok. This doesn’t mean you don’t have bummer days now and then. It means you choose to look at the glass not just half full but the fact that you actually have a glass – what can you learn from this experience – what feedback are you receiving about yourself – are choosing to smile to make someone else smile too?

Life is full of wonder and hope – living in the moment helps with optimism because you can’t get stuck in the past or future in you are focusing on today. This is no easy task and is often difficult to create. If you can take things one day at a time and truly #yayitforward to those around you, you might just succeed.

Also being a cheerleader + offering support can help with the idea of optimism – it is really hard to feel down when you are lifting someone else up!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Have a positive attitude + say thank you (gratitude) – when in doubt, smile (or burpee) it out.

Collaboration is key – surround yourself with like-minded people who share your goals + vision then
create a community together that ROCKS.

Be coachable – listen, grow, learn + apply it.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Take a deep breath – count to 5, then do it again + again. Oxygenating the blood + the brain calms our central nervous system. Sometimes we forget to take deep breaths when we are stressed, busy, or overwhelmed.

Make sure these top five are being taken care of to prevent more overwhelm:

1. Sleep – get as much as you can
2. Nutrition – eat real food
3. Movement – train daily
4. Mindset – how you think matters
5. Connect – build healthy relationships
