Meet Sarah Demers

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Demers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

My imposter syndrome still tries to gaslight me from time to time, but continuing to create and share my work has helped me manage it. Reflecting on my journey, comparing work from five years ago to my recent projects, has been enlightening. It allows me to acknowledge my growth and see how perseverance and continuous practice have propelled me forward.

On days when that negative voice is louder, I take intentional time to reset. Whether it’s engaging in another creative act like journaling or cooking a delicious meal, or grounding activities like going for a run or reading a book, these moments help me regain perspective and realize that things aren’t as daunting as they seem. It’s about taking a moment to trust in myself again.

Over the years, I’ve also learned the power of taking the leap, even when imposter syndrome tries to hold me back. There will be bumps in the road, but reframing those challenges as learning experiences creates a beautiful space for growth and expansion.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I knew from a very young age that I would end up in a creative field, but it wasn’t until college that I discovered graphic design. I had never created digital art before, but I quickly realized the endless possibilities it offered. Every project became an exciting challenge and an opportunity to learn and grow. Bringing an idea to life through design was incredibly fulfilling, and I knew I had found my true passion.

Fast forward to today, and I have had the privilege of designing brands across a variety of industries, from cannabis to floral design to boutique shops. Intentional brand design begins with thoughtful collaboration with the client, understanding their ethos, the competing market, and their vision. This approach results in strong visual identities that resonate with the client and, in turn, their audience.

With each project, I strive to deliver unique and impactful solutions. There is always more to learn, explore, and create, and I am excited to see where this creative journey takes me next.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Curiosity, optimism and persistence would have to be the top three qualities that have contributed most to my journey.

Curiosity: My curiosity drives me to keep learning, experimenting with new techniques, and staying engaged in my work. This constant quest for knowledge and innovation has been crucial in keeping my creative spark alive.

Optimism: Believing in myself and my skills has been a cornerstone of my success. Although imposter syndrome sometimes sneaks in, maintaining a positive outlook and confidence in my abilities has been essential. This optimism fuels my motivation and helps me tackle challenges.

Persistence: I’ve created my fair share of less-than-stellar work, but persistence has kept me moving forward. Instead of being dissuaded by failures, I view them as opportunities to learn and improve. This resilience helps me to continue to grow and evolve as a designer.

These three qualities—curiosity, optimism, and persistence—work in a cycle. Optimism gives me faith, persistence keeps me moving, and curiosity allows me to learn and evolve. While the cycle sometimes gets jammed, allowing myself the grace to recalibrate always helps me get back on track.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is passionate about their business and understands the importance of thoughtful design, especially in today’s saturated markets with so many options. This client is eager to embark on a collaborative journey, trusting me with their vision as we develop stellar work together.

They don’t need to be industry-specific, though I do have wishlist clients like seaweed-based skincare brands or cafes that double as cocktail bars. Ultimately, I want to work with businesses that align with my values and, above all, value their relationship with their audience.

I’ve found that the best clients are those who truly believe in what they do. They provide thorough information about their history, target audience, and core values. It’s about creating something that feels authentic to them and effortlessly expresses their vision, even though a lot of effort goes on behind the scenes.
