We recently connected with Sarah Faubert and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I’d say my resilience comes from both life experience and doing work I really care about. In this industry, things can change fast, whether it’s a tricky client or last minute schedule change, but I’ve learned to stay calm, adapt, and keep things moving. I’ve also learned to not take anything personally and view challenges as a part of the process.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been a professional makeup artist for 8 years, and this career has taken me to some incredible places- on set, behind the scenes at events, traveling with brides and brands and creating content along the way. No two days are the same, and that’s what keeps it exciting!
I’m all about creating looks that make you feel like you, just elevated. I especially love collaborating with brands that trust me to bring my own creative touch to the look. There’s something so fulfilling about helping shape a visual story while adding a bit of my own style. Whether I’m glamming someone for their wedding day, a big campaign shoot or even a night out, my goal is to make you feel confident, comfortable and camera ready! I love what I do and I make sure to bring that energy and creativity into every project!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Adaptability
Working in so many fast-paced environments, sets, events, travel- I’ve learned to think on my feet and adjust quickly without compromising the quality of my work.
2. Creative Vision
I know how to interpret a concept and bring it to life in a way that still feels true to my style and the client’s vision.
3. Collaboration and Communication
Learning how to communicate clearly and also how to listen and work with everyone is key in this industry. Knowing how to work with all types of personalities and build trust through collaboration has been a big part of my success.
My advice for artists that are just starting out in their journey would be to assist other artists in the beginning and never stop putting yourself out there! Reach out to people who’s work you admire and never stop learning! Leave ego at the door and stay hungry for your growth and success. It’s not an easy industry to break into but if you stay true to yourself and stay focused on what actually matters you can go far!
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Literally I go touch grass… lol sometimes for me it’s best that I remove myself from the situation and go disconnect in nature. I’m a big hiker so getting outside and moving my body really helps me to calm my mind and come back to myself and my work with a refreshed perspective and energy.
