Meet Sarah Hampton

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Hampton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Discovering my purpose in the realm of the beauty industry, hairstyling was akin to uncovering my “ikigai,” a Japanese concept that represents the intersection of what one loves, what one is good at, what the world needs, and what one can be paid for. Through years of dedication and passion for creative expression, combined with the joy of transforming individuals’ appearances and self-confidence, I found my ikigai within color, color corrections, and extension transformations. This journey led me to establish Ikigai Creative Studio, where I continue to thrive by helping people look and feel their best through the artistry of hair!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Ikigai Creative Studio, I offer more than just a salon experience — a destination for transformation and empowerment. With a dedication to integrity and a passion for changing lives one head at a time, I pour my heart and soul into every client interaction. My long, hard hours are a testament to my commitment to excellence and the genuine care I have for each individual who walks through the doors.

What sets Ikigai Creative Studio apart is the unwavering focus on meeting the unique needs and concerns of every client. I understand that no two heads of hair are alike, and I pride myself on the ability to tailor my services to each person’s specific desires and preferences.

Education is at the core of what I do. I believe in continually investing in my own skills and knowledge, which is why I pursue certifications and stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the hairstyling industry. This dedication ensures that I can offer my clients the best services and results possible.

In response to overwhelming support, I’ve recently reinvented my service menu to feature my most sought-after offerings, paired with the finest products and cutting-edge technologies available in today’s haircare landscape. At Ikigai Creative Studio, I’m not just keeping up with the times—I’m setting the standard for excellence in hair care, color, and extension transformations.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful:

1. **Research and Education:** Continuously seeking knowledge and staying updated on industry trends and techniques has been crucial both as a business owner and as a stylist behind the chair. Whether it’s attending workshops, pursuing certifications, or staying informed through online resources, investing in education has allowed me to refine my craft and provide the best possible service to my clients.

2. **Persistence and Resilience:** In this industry, challenges are inevitable, but it’s how we respond to them that defines our success. It’s essential not to give up when times get tough, as these are often the moments of greatest growth. Stepping out of the comfort zone, embracing challenges, and persisting through adversity are key to improving skills and achieving long-term success.

3. **Creativity and Enjoyment:** Above all, having fun and embracing creativity are essential aspects of being a hairstylist. This industry offers endless opportunities for expression and innovation, and embracing creativity allows us to push boundaries and unlock our full potential. Finding joy in the work we do not only fuels our passion but also attracts clients who appreciate our enthusiasm and dedication.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to prioritize research and education, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and never forget to have fun along the way. The journey of becoming a skilled hairstylist is both rewarding and fulfilling, and by cultivating these qualities, individuals can pave the way for a successful and fulfilling career in the industry.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe it’s essential to recognize and leverage our strengths while also acknowledging areas where improvement is needed. While being well-rounded can have its advantages, focusing on our strengths allows us to excel and stand out in our chosen field.

In my experience, specializing in certain areas has been immensely rewarding both professionally and personally. For example, my passion for color correction and major transformations has become my specialty, and it’s where I truly shine. By dedicating myself to mastering these skills, I’ve been able to deliver exceptional results for my clients and establish myself as an expert in my field.

While it’s valuable to have a broad skill set, spreading ourselves too thin can dilute our effectiveness and passion. Instead, I’ve found that investing deeply in my strengths not only sets me apart but also brings me immense satisfaction and fulfillment.

Ultimately, pursuing what we’re truly passionate about leads to greater success and happiness. By focusing on our strengths and honing our expertise, we can make a more significant impact and enjoy a more fulfilling career journey.
