Meet Sarah Hausdoerffer

We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Hausdoerffer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sarah, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mom, she raised her 5 kids as a single mom, on a teachers salary. She would be a ski instructor on the weekends so that her kids could get free season passes. We all would go skiing as an outlet, and that quickly became our way to deal with everyday stress. I use these skills now, when I am feeling burned out or stressed. Luckily, we live in Crested Butte, where we if we need to go outside, we have quick access. I originally had a faux finish/mural business for 12 years where I did specialty painting and created my own schedule. I wanted to still have a business that reflected my creativity, so that’s when I decided to switch careers to flowers as an art form. I dropped everything and went to floral school and design in Portland and came back and started the flower shop! I wanted to show my kids the journey into starting a business and that you can always pursue something you’re interested in.
I think switching careers (while the first career is going strong still) built resilience and strength.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own a flower shop/retail shop that focuses on specialty floral design. I have a team of talented florists, including my identical twin sister, and we focus on the artistic side of flowers and uplifting the personality of events. We do large scale weddings and events to small elopements. We love to stay on top of the trends, and create the most unexpected floral designs. From moss walls, to dried floral installations, to custom arrangements. We also have a retail shop that is opening on 318 Elk Avenue, Opening just before Valentines day! The retail shop also has unique plants, home goods, and will have fresh flowers. This flower shop is not like your typical flower shop, its a more open feel where the floral designers interact with the customers while creating at the same time. We hope to expand Bramble and Bloom in the future with our signature dried flower arrangements and custom wreaths.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Taking risks is my favorite skill that has helped me. I changed my amazing career of painting murals and decorative finishes to challenge myself and see if I could be creative in a different way. My creativity has carried me through all of the hard times, it is what always helps me through difficult challenges in life. Consistency has always helped me, no matter what I say I am going to do, I always make sure I follow through with it.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is anyone that allows me to express my creativity. I love when people trust me and give me the freedom to run with an idea.
