Meet Sarah Langston

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Langston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my drive! I have always been passionate about any job I’ve ever had, especially when it comes to a personal project of mine. I have so much pride in my businesses and the work I have put into them and only dream of pushing myself further to build a strong foundation for my family.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have two businesses that are my pride and joy. Several years ago, I started up my photography business, Wicked Roots Photography Co. At the time I started my business I was going through a really tough point in my life and was struggling to find a purpose. I had dabbled with a camera a few times previously, but never really found an interest in it. One day I decided to try again, and that moment changed my life! I started creating magic with people who wanted to feel magic within themselves. That feeling of showing someone how beautiful they are, inside and out, is incredibly powerful. I love taking a moment in time and capturing it forever.

My newest business that I started up is The Wild Magnolia Travelin’ Bar. I have worked in the bartending industry for 10 years and wanted to find a way to elevate that service. I spent a year looking at different converted campers and horse trailers and found a beautiful 1974 Shasta that I fell in love with! My primary focus is weddings; however, I really enjoy participating in local markets and family events. My inspiration for the name behind my mobile bar came from one of my favorite Netflix shows, Sweet Magnolias. I knew I wanted something that fit the vibe I was going for, but also shadowed who I am, sweet with a wild side, thus The Wild Magnolia was born.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Persistence, Resilience, and Humility. These three factors are some of the most important in building any business foundation. First, persistence. It can be extremely difficult in any industry to feel overshadowed or feel like you aren’t accomplishing what you wanted to in the timeframe you anticipated. It is so important to push past these bumps in the road and keep moving forward with your dream. Second, resilience. This can be a make or break for you in the business world. There will always be competition in any market, there will always be someone you see who might be reaching goals faster than you and it makes you feel less than. There will always be mistakes and lessons learned – it is how you handle these moments that determine your outcome. Continue to push forward and always give yourself room to bounce back from anything that has put you down. Finally, humility. It is more important than anything in the entire world to never lose a sense of humility. I am so eternally thankful for every opportunity that has been awarded to me, and even more thankful for every single person who has been a part of making my businesses what they are today.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Imposter syndrome is my biggest challenge at this point in my career. I am very hard on myself and strive really hard to offer the best product and services possible. I set very high expectations for myself and get extremely frustrated when I feel like I have fallen short. Thankfully, I have an amazing support system from my family, my spouse, and my clients.
