We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Lynn Dawson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah Lynn below.

Sarah Lynn, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I really enjoy what I do so that helps, most of the time it doesn’t feel like work. Acting and filmmaking has always been something I love. As an actress I look for projects that involve great people. There are so many talented filmmakers out there and I am always inspired when I read a great script or watch a fantastic film. I learn from every project I work on and I like characters that have an intensity and a depth to them. I have produced several short films and I am now working on two features, so that has created a new challenge for me. I have never been one to just relax, I like to be in motion creatively.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think my ability to adapt and embrace new cultures and people has been very important to me. I have traveled since I was young and it has enabled me to integrate with, work and learn from people of all nationalities and backgrounds which is very helpful as an actress and filmmaker. To develop this this, it is great to travel as much as you can, even in your own location. For example Los Angeles has a lot of diverse cultures, you can visit authentic restaurants and areas even with in your own city.

In addition I went to a British boarding school which taught me independence at a young age. One of the ways you can develop this skill this is by getting out of your comfort zone and trying a new networking group or such. The first few times can be uncomfortable, but after that it gets easier. Doing things on your own is also great and you meet more people.

Also at school I did a lot of sports, track and field mainly. This taught me early on the importance of exercise and health. I think you have to take responsibly for your own health and find a form of exercise you love and do it consistently. It’s hard to do most times, so if you enjoy it, it helps. Health is not just about exercise though, it’s about what you eat. I have done a lot of research into different diets and tried quite a few. It’s important to listen to your own body and pay attention to what you like and dislike. I mainly eat organic fruit and veggies and fish with some carbs. I also drink a lot of water.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed, I change my state, I remove myself from my current physical environment and go to the beach or the forest. I find anywhere in nature to be very healing. A lot of times I will use the practice of grounding where you take off your shoes and connect to the earth. Fresh air and deep breathing also helps, as does drinking water. It is important to surround yourself with positive people who inspire you. If you have too much to do, writing everything down and prioritizing what’s most important is also very helpful.
