We recently connected with Sarah MacMillan and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose? Thank you so much for having me, I’m a fan of your stories! I’ve always believed that purpose isn’t something we stumble upon in a single moment of revelation, but rather, it’s woven into the fabric of our existence, evolving and manifesting at every stage of our lives. I’ve come to understand with everything I’ve lived, that purpose isn’t a destination but a journey.
Ever since I started making my own decisions I can see how there was a purpose that led me to my next purpose, eventually guiding me to where I am now, where I feel most fulfilled by contributing positively to my community and profession. There has always been a guiding force propelling me forward.
So, when I reflect on how I found my purpose in life, I see it as an ongoing journey of self-discovery and growth, where every experience, every challenge, and every triumph has contributed to shaping who I am and the impact I aspire to make. It’s a journey that continues to unfold, reminding me that purpose isn’t a fixed destination but rather a dynamic and deeply personal exploration of meaning and fulfillment.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a personal transformation guide and the founder of Be Generation Love School, where I train facilitators in meditation, Breathwork, sound healing, women’s circles, and devotional practices, among other methods I’ve developed over the years of working with thousands of people.
My journey started when I fell into a clinical depression for years and after looking for an alternative for taking medication, my therapist recommended a Breathwork session that changed everything. That led me to meditate, which led me to explore sound healing and life just continued to lead me towards a path of service.
I’m passionate about what I do. I enjoy bringing out the best in people and empowering them to become the highest version of themselves. I believe this passion is why I never feel like I’m working. Every day is an opportunity to inspire, teach, and guide others toward their highest potential.
My professional focus is on creating a safe and nurturing space where people can explore their own path of transformation and personal growth. Through proven techniques and practices, along with a personalized approach, I help my students and clients overcome obstacles, heal emotional wounds, and reach a higher level of consciousness and fulfillment.
At Be Generation Love School, we take pride in training our students to work with others professionally. Our comprehensive programs ensure that our graduates leave with confidence and a sense of security to start offering their services to clients. We provide hands-on experience, practical skills, and ongoing support to help them succeed in their chosen field.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
- Resilience: The ability to bounce back from adversity and setbacks has been crucial in my journey. Life is full of challenges, and being resilient has allowed me to navigate through difficult times, learn from my experiences, and continue moving forward. Developing resilience involves cultivating a growth mindset, practicing self-compassion, and building a support network of friends, family, and mentors who can provide guidance and encouragement.
Advice: For those early in their journey, I would recommend embracing failure as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback. Cultivate resilience by developing a positive outlook, staying adaptable in the face of change, and seeking support from others when needed. Remember that setbacks are temporary, and with resilience, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
- Self-awareness: Understanding myself on a deep level has been essential in guiding my decisions, actions, and relationships. Self-awareness involves being honest with oneself, recognizing strengths and weaknesses, and understanding how past experiences shape present behaviors. Through practices like meditation, breathwork, journaling, and self-reflection, I’ve gained insight into my thoughts, emotions, and motivations, allowing me to make more intentional choices aligned with my values and aspirations.
Advice: To cultivate self-awareness, I recommend carving out time for introspection and self-reflection regularly. Engage in practices like mindfulness meditation, journaling prompts, or therapy to deepen your understanding of yourself. Be open to feedback from others and use it as an opportunity for growth. The journey of self-discovery is ongoing, so stay curious and compassionate with yourself as you explore your inner landscape.
- Continuous learning: Embracing a mindset of lifelong learning has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. The world is constantly evolving, and staying curious and adaptable has allowed me to stay ahead of the curve, acquire new skills, and broaden my perspective. Whether through formal education, workshops, travel, mentors, books, podasts etc., I prioritize learning and seek out opportunities to expand my knowledge and expertise.9
Advice: For those at the beginning of their journey, I encourage you to adopt a growth mindset and view learning as a lifelong pursuit. Be proactive in seeking out opportunities for growth, whether it’s through formal education, mentorship, or self-directed learning. Stay curious, ask questions, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and development. Remember that the journey of learning is as important as the destination, so enjoy the process and celebrate your progress along the way.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to always believe in my potential, my ideas, and my dreams. From a young age, they encouraged me to pursue my natural gifts, which led me to study music and composition—a decision that has profoundly influenced my work today as I delve deeper into the realms of vibration and frequency. My parents instilled in me the value of living a life of service, emphasizing the importance of helping others, connecting with my heart, and learning the power of forgiveness and letting go. They have been my greatest role models, and their guidance has shaped me into the person I am today. Their unwavering belief in me and their teachings about compassion and selflessness continue to inspire my actions and decisions every day.
