We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Meconse Mierau recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my ancestors. As an Indigenous woman I come from a long line of survivors. Strong women who above everything else make sure there family is takin care of.
Whenever I feel I can’t do something, I call on their energy to help me get through it.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Tradish brings Traditional Indigenous nourishment to urban Indigenous and non-Indigenous health conscience people while supporting Indigenous food sovereignty, culture and community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Culinary school has taught me so much and helped me bring my vision to life.
When I first graduated I thought I may never use the skills I learned working for other people. When you work in someone else’s kitchen you have to do it their way.
It wasn’t until starting my own business that I was able to see how valuable these skills I learned were.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They taught me that I am capable of greatness. With hard work anything is possible
