Meet Sarah Shackelford

We recently connected with Sarah Shackelford and have shared our conversation below.

Sarah, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
A huge part of my personal development as it relates to my business has been to normalize not feeling “ready”. It’s very easy to get caught up in procrastination if you have the mentality that everything has to be perfect before you share it with the world. Just do the thing. Start somewhere by taking that leap. In doing so, you will begin reinforcing the belief that you ARE capable and CAN succeed. Some days are still a struggle, but practicing this process has really helped build both my confidence and self-esteem muscles.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The project I’m most proud of is my small essential oil business, Enchanted Essentials. In this space, I am able to work with clients to create custom essential oil products to help support their physical, mental, and emotional needs. I have a lot of fun vending at local markets, where I get to put oils in front of folks to see how their body responds and really witness that personal experience. One of my favorite things about owning Enchanted is that it gives me the chance to guide others on best practices around using natural plant medicine to better their overall wellbeing.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A few things that have been pretty impactful for me are: 1) Getting clear on my personal values. Once you understand what you value most, everything else flows a little easier. Your values direct how you choose to show up in the world, so once you are clear on what those are you can more easily tap into things like what career avenues are best for you, the types of relationships you want to be in, and what interests you want to pursue. 2) Learning to listen to and trust my intuition. Once you’ve decided to move toward that goal you’ve wanted to take action on, it is almost inevitable that the people who care about you will have some sort of input. While this most often comes from a place of positive intention, it is easy to let the opinion of others cloud your vision. Do your best to stay focused on what actually matters to you, and run with that. Frequently checking in with yourself to ensure you are still aligned with your personal values is helpful. Sometimes shutting out outside noise is the best thing you can do, especially in the beginning. 3) This is one that I am still working on mastering – remember to REST. Whatever it is you’re working toward, don’t forget that rest is just as important as the results-driven action steps you take toward your goals. There will be ebb and flow, where some weeks will require you to push yourself harder than others, but it is crucial to pencil in time to rest in order to replenish yourself and avoid burnout. It took me so long to learn that rest is actually productive too, just in a different way.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
The cool thing about my business is that my offerings are applicable to anyone and everyone. I’m passionate about working with people to identify their specific needs, whether that is related to their physical, mental, or emotional body, and then working with them to find what natural solutions make the most sense for them.

Some of my best selling products include my essential oil roller blends. I’ve crafted blends to specifically target issues pertaining to stress & anxiety, sleep, energy, and libido. Additionally, I offer individualized custom roller blends – these are so fun! Often customers will reach out to make a blend as a gift, or to explore different essential oil combinations that really speak to them.
