We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Vorva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sarah with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic was first shaped by the quiet strength of my parents. They showed me, through their daily choices, what it means to work hard—not for applause, but for the sake of providing, loving, and honoring the people around them. I watched them put in long hours, sometimes with little rest, never complaining, always rooted in humility and grace. That example planted something deep in me. Over the years, I’ve learned that my self-worth isn’t found in external validation or how much I accomplish, but in the consistency with which I show up and pour myself into what matters most. My children give that purpose shape—they watch everything I do, and knowing I’m helping shape their understanding of responsibility, grit, and love pushes me to be intentional in how I live and work. And at the center of it all is God—my compass, my strength, and my reminder that even in the mundane, there is meaning. I believe that when I honor Him through my talents, I’m living out my calling, not just as a parent or provider, but as a vessel of something greater.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At Wanderlust Exposures, I do more than simply photograph—I gather stories, small and sacred, and preserve them in images that feel as honest and heartfelt as the moments themselves. What excites me most is capturing the fleeting, unscripted details: the way golden light drifts through trees, the crinkle of laughter lines, the quiet touch that says more than words ever could. These are the moments that tether us to each other and to place. Wanderlust Exposures is for those who treasure the raw, the real, and the beautifully imperfect—those who feel the tug of nostalgia and want to hold onto it just a little longer. Here, every photograph is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember that life’s richest stories are often found in the in-between.
At Wanderlust Exposures, I’ve long cherished the art of still photography—the way a single frame can hold a feeling, a memory, a season of life—but I’m also feeling called to expand that storytelling into motion. I’m beginning to weave more video and content creation into my sessions and weddings, crafting short films and vignettes that bring sound, movement, and atmosphere to life. There’s something special about capturing not just how a moment looked, but how it felt: the wind in someone’s hair, the rustle of leaves, laughter echoing in real time. This shift allows me to offer couples and families an even more immersive way to remember their day—not just as images to hold, but as stories they can feel again and again. Wanderlust Exposures will always be rooted in authenticity and intention, and adding video simply gives me another tender way to honor and preserve life’s fleeting, beautiful moments.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I think there were three qualities and skills that shaped my journey with Wanderlust Exposures more than anything else. First, determination—the quiet, steady resolve to keep showing up, learning, and refining my craft even when things felt hard or uncertain. Second, the ability to use emotion and light together: not just seeing light technically, but understanding how it shapes feeling, how it can soften, highlight, or elevate a moment so it resonates more deeply. And finally, the practice of knowing myself and my camera intimately—because when I’m grounded in who I am and comfortable with my tools, I can move through sessions and weddings with fluidity, confidence, and presence, leaving room for honest connection and authentic storytelling. These qualities continue to guide everything I do, and they’re at the heart of how I strive to serve my clients with care and intention.
For anyone early in their journey, my best advice is simple but profound: practice, endlessly and intentionally. The more you shoot—whether it’s with clients, friends, or just wandering with your camera—the more comfortable you’ll become not just with your technical skills but with your creative voice. Alongside that practice, offer yourself grace. Growth takes time, and it’s easy to get caught in comparison or perfectionism. Remember that every misstep or “failed” shot is actually part of the process of becoming. And most importantly, stay connected to your own why—take time to reflect, get to know yourself, and listen to what truly inspires you. That self-awareness, paired with technical mastery and emotional honesty, is what allows you to create work that feels personal, authentic, and deeply meaningful.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one challenge I’m currently facing is time—more specifically, learning how to balance the demands of running a small business with the equally important (and beautiful) demands of motherhood. It’s a delicate dance, and I’m realizing how easy it is to overbook myself, to fill every quiet moment with work, and to slip into a pace that leaves little room for rest or presence. Right now, I’m being intentional about enjoying the off season, allowing space for reflection, creativity, and simply being with my family. I’m also learning the power of saying no—not from a place of scarcity, but as a way of protecting what matters most so that I can show up more fully for both my clients and my children. It’s a work in progress, but honoring these boundaries feels like a vital part of sustaining both my business and my joy.
