Meet Satien Mehta

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Satien Mehta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Satien , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from non stop rejection, missteps and mistakes I made on my own. I didn’t have a mentor or anyone guiding me in the entertainment business. I got taken advantage of alot and learned through that and something inside of me told me to work through it and I had a profound belief in myself so I kept going. There were alot of times where I questioned myself in what I was doing but I knew not to give up. I didn’t want anyone to think or feel like I gave up because I was doing it for a bigger reason. There weren’t that many south asians in the space when I started.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Ive been a freelance producer for 9 years now. I own a company called Drive International Agency based in Los Angeles, CA. We really focus on creating multifaceted content for brands, corporations, artists and record labels. I’ve produced music videos, commercials, branded content and recaps for events and have worked with Universal Music Group, Brown Forman, Kaiser Permanente and artists including Kevin Hart, Halsey, Cardi B and Snoop Dogg. Ive produced for myself and other companies and have built out a network of clients and creatives where I’ve been able to get myself alot of work along with helping others as well.

In 2015, I produced Uma Thurman for Fall Out Boy, and our team won an MTV VMA for best rock video. That year, I decided to focus on producing full time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three things I wish I knew when I was younger or started out would be: 1. Stay persistent and consistent and patient. It wont happen overnight so take your time, give yourself grace and work towards Macro and micro goals.
2. Find what is authentic to you and stay true to that
3. Do what makes you happy and find your strengths and double down on that.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Books I recommend would be The Four Agreements, A New Earth, Ego is the Enemy and the 48 laws of power.

Understand what the difference is when youre are operating out of Ego and when you are operating out of self. Ego will feel good in the moment, however self is what will bring you real joy.

Constantly evolve and be open to learning and growth.
