We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savannah Beauchene a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Savannah, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence is something that is within all of us. Even though confidence comes in ebbs and flows, all of us have it. Looking back at my confidence in high school versus college, I definitely feel more confident now than I did back then. I think about all the pressure I used to put on myself in middle and high school to look prettier, have better style, have the same body type as every other girl, but it’s now in my early 20s that I am starting to come to the realization that I have give myself some grace to learn that I can become more confident. Comparing yourself to others never gets you anywhere, I feel it often brings you down. Developing confidence and self-esteem will be an ever changing, growing process. Confidence will grow as you self reflect, discover habits, set goals, seek positivity, discover passions and more. Each day I work on self compassion because it’s true, how can you love anyone else before you can truly love yourself? Take those moments in the morning to tell yourself you look good, that today will be an amazing day, that you’re proud of your work ethic. You are beautiful, your body is beautiful, and your life is beautiful, no one can take that away from you! Also, don’t be afraid to try new things. If you aren’t feeling confident with something in your life but you’re afraid of judgement, do it anyway! We judge ourselves the hardest and I promise you, kindly, no one is second guessing their friendship with you because you want to try a new hairstyle. Be you!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m born and raised in Southern California, and I’m now a senior in college at school in San Diego! I’ve always loved art or anything creative, so it has always been a goal of mine to integrate creativity into my daily life and future career. My major is business marketing, and I hope to go into social media marketing or branding while also working on my own personal brand! In addition to my growing love of creative marketing and social media, I have a lot of involvement in greek life. Being in my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, has given me the opportunity to take on leadership positions, event planning, travel, support an amazing philanthropy and so much more. Through this organization of incredible women, I have learned so much that has helped me grow personally and professionally. There is so much excitement around sorority life in social media, that I make a lot of content on TikTok sharing my journey. From sharing how I setup events, connect with brands for sisterhoods, advice and more, I have been able to connect with that niche of girls online. Through my social media journey, I have been able to work with brands in my sorority and personally like FabFitFun, Poppi, Valentino Beauty, and more! I have loved the journey of college and sorority life so I can’t wait to continue my future career with everything valuable I have learned from them!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities and skills that I feel have been most impactful for me are authenticity, creativity, and networking. By prioritizing authenticity, I can commit to being true to myself, embracing my personality and unique qualities without feeling the need to “fake it” on my social platforms and in real life. Authenticity creates a space for transparency where you or others around you feel like they can express their true self, their good or sad feelings, and goals. It connects people on a deeper level because you truly feel like you know that person for who they are. Creativity is something that has always been super important to me. From when I was really young until present day, I have always been creative and loved things like painting, drawing, pottery, digital art, etc. Being able to have creativity in my future career, personal life, personal brand, and more is so incredibly important to me. Networking is such an important skill! I learned this on a real level through a business course I took at college and I’m so grateful. It taught be to always speak up and connect with others in my community, you never know what opportunities will come from it!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me is be supportive. I truly never realized it until I was older, but my parents along with my whole family have always been so supportive. Whether it was wanting to try a new arts and craft project, a fun sport, or anything I had an interest in, they were there for me. At the time, when I realized I wanted to pursue social media and making videos, I was nervous of what my parents would think. I truly did not think that they would understand why I loved it or take me seriously, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Each time I post a new video, my mom texts me about it before it’s even posted for an hour. It’s my dad, who always tells me how proud of me he is when I get a new brand partnership. When I post an art project, it’s my grandparents who rave about it to all their friends. Surrounding myself with people who have become my biggest cheerleaders is what keeps me going even when I don’t feel worthy of something I’ve achieved. And yes, my parents have done things for me like driving me around before I had a license, caring for me when I’ve been sick, and paying for my groceries which I’m so grateful for, but it’s their support that means the most to me!
