Meet Savannah Broeren

We were lucky to catch up with Savannah Broeren recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Savannah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I think I get my resilience from a mix of my mom and becoming paralyzed at just 18 years old. That changed every single aspect of my life. I became a permanent wheelchair user before I could graduate high school. I was an athlete and then my ability to do what I loved most was taken away from me. I lost friends and it felt like everyone I cared about most had abandoned me. It took resilience to continue to be here and be okay!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am the owner and operator of Photography by Savannah Broeren. I specialize in events, but unfortunately due to my health, I have to take a step back for awhile.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

There are so many skills that are most impactful in my photography journey. The first one is having a “good eye”. I don’t simply push a shutter button and hope for the best. I move around the best I can and find opportunities for pictures. I don’t quite know how I developed this skill. I think looking at pictures taken by other photographers helped me figure out what pictures I actually want.
The second skill is just understanding my camera and it’s functions. To develop this skill, I took a class that defined the functions and taught me when to use them. I also play around with settings often.
Lastly, another skill is learning how to be kind. To develop this skill, I just talked to people. The best way to develop this skill is to do it, not take a course on it! We learn best from experiences.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

As mentioned before, I am taking a step back due to my health. However, if you want to work with me in the future, please send me a DM on Instagram. I will write your name down and get back to you if and when I can return.
