Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah Ellington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Savannah, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from seeing people that I admire work. I see the things and the life they have. When I ask them what they did. They always told me they either had their own business or a good job. Continue to work hard and not give up. I have been working since I was 16. I never stopped. I take my failure as a lesson and I keep going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi I’m Savannah, I am from Ypsilanti, Michigan. I graduated from Ann Arbor Pionneer high school. Through out my schooling I fell in love with cheerleading and track. I loved being an athlete. As being an athlete myself. I knew I wanted to work with athletes. That lead me to wanting to do something in the medical field. I took a health science class in high school. I was able to shadow athletic trainers. I fell in love with what they did. Helping people is what I wanted to do most. I went to college for short while to become an athletic trainer. My career counselor told me the athletic training program is a very competitive program. I didn’t think I would have made the cut. So, I went on google and I found massage therapy. I started my journey as a massage therapist in 2017. I went school at Dorsey school in Madison Height. I have been wanting to start my practice for the past 8 years. When I received my license. I started working for other spa and massage franchises. While trying to build up my clientele. From then to now it has been very challenging for me. I was lost for a long time. I decided to get a mentor in the massage industry. Once I joined, I was able to rent out a space, get a website going and learning marketing strategies.
I am the owner of Vista Sports Massage. Located in Colorado Springs, CO. I opened April 1st, 2024. I specialize in the relief of pain for active life styles. I love working with athletes and body builders. The services I offer is deep tissue, sports massage and assisted stretching. My inspiration came from wanting to help other and being an athlete myself.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Areas of knowledge: knowing anatomy and physiology really well.
Networking: The only way to build your business is to meet new people. Talk to people about why they need your business. It’s important to be authentic when networking. We were created differently for a reason.
Resilience: bouncing back can be hard. Starting a business can be hard as well. You have to be resilient when you hit an obstacle. Be able to adapt to get though.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I invested in a mentor that has been in the massage industry for a very long time. She has created her own 6 figure practice and has help others do the same. She has given me tools and strategies to marketing. She has taught me that failure is a part of success. If you don’t have failures you are doing something wrong. She reminds me that the most successful people. Grew a foundation on their failure to succeed.
