Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah Judy & Luke Judy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Savannah Judy &, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Being siblings, we both get our work ethic from our parents. Our whole lives we have watched our parents work together to run their business of hair salons. We grew up in the salons, even as babies our parents had a nursery for us where we would go everyday while they worked. It was really a fun environment, the staff would take turns coming in our nursery to play with us throughout the day. At a young age we took an interest in the salons and even now we both work in the family business and plan to continue to learn about the business and ways we can contribute.
Growing up in a small business you learn that if there is something to be done, you do it yourself and if you don’t know how…. you learn.
Being raised in a small business taught us invaluable lessons about hard work and resourcefulness. Whenever there was a task to be done, the mantra was simple: if you see it needs doing, you do it yourself. And if you don’t know how, you take the initiative to learn. There were countless moments when we were alongside our parents during major renovations and salon relocations. Despite their busy schedules, they always made sure we felt secure and supported, instilling in us a profound sense of resilience.
The lessons we learned from observing our parents navigate the challenges of raising us while running a business go far beyond just work ethic. They gave us the confidence to believe that with determination and effort, we can achieve our goals. This mindset has been incredibly beneficial as we embark on our journey with DUPLEXITY, and we carry their influence with us every step of the way.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are DUPLEXITY, a teen sibling indie rock duo. We started our band in 2023 after realizing this was what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. We both have taken lesson for voice and instruments most of our lives. Savannah started writing songs at 7 years old, when she first dreamed of becoming an artist. Luke realized this was his path after a performance with our first band. Shortly after that performance we went into the studio to create our original sound. Since then we have released our first EP “Billboards” in Oct 2023, four additional singles in 2024 and we are releasing our newest single “Not Today” on March 11th the same day as our Debut SXSW performance.
We love all aspects of music, but our most favorite is performing live. There is nothing like being on a stage singing your own songs to a live audience!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking at our journey so far, we would have to say that our work ethic has been very impactful for building the band, another thing tha’ts been incredibly important is our ability to work together as a team. If we didn’t get along so well and think alike or have the same priorities, we may have had disagreements in which direction to go in both creatively and business wise. A lot of bands have drama because people don’t have the same ideas of what it takes to build a band. We both have the same level of commitment to DUPLEXITY which makes it so much easier on so many levels. Also living with your band mate makes it easy to practice and collaborate daily. Just last week Luke came up with an idea for a song and I heard him and chimed in and now we have another new song we are almost fished with.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
One of our goals for 2025 is to collaborate with as many artists as possible. We want to be involved in as many projects as as we can to help build our music community. We recently have been incorporating a southern feel to our music. Because of this, we have been going to Nashville to record. We have started to slowly build a community there, we love how different it is from LA and how everything is centered around music. We would love to find people to feature on our music and to play live with. We can definitely see a future where we split our time between LA and Nashville, reaping the benefits each city has to offer. We wrote our newest single ” Not Today” along with 3 additional songs with Trey Bruce and recorded them in Nashville with a live band at The Sound Emporium. Our band members were: Drums Miles McPherson, Bass Craig Young , Guitar Justin Ostrander, Luke Judy, Trey Bruce, Keys & Synth Luke Moseley. All the new songs are produced by Trey Bruce.
