We recently connected with Savannah Sevegney and have shared our conversation below.

Savannah, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Keeping creativity alive in a fast moving industry can sometimes be difficult. I find that keeping your creativity alive is first by surrounding yourself in what you want your atmosphere or creativity to look like. This being the people you choose to hangout with, activities you choose to do outside of work, and even who and what you follow on social media.

Being in the location that Modern Drift is our inspiration and creativity also comes from the nature around us. Being across from a gorgeous lake and seeing the seasons change definitely creates a lot of artistic flow. We are located on Teal Lake in Negaunee, Michigan.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Modern Drift Boutique is a Modern Style clothing store that has created a way for customers to create a capsule wardrobe by shopping their styles anytime of year. They specialize in color analysis with the owner being a certified color analyst. This being said, we help our clients not only find their style but help them find what colors suit them best.

Modern Drift is currently selecting pieces for the colder months to come. We like to call them the, “ber,” months. With the holidays right around the corner Modern Drift will also be popping up at some local events in the Marquette County Area. Not to mention Modern Drift hosts fashion shows in the local area as well and plans on another Holiday Show! Her Fashion Show location is usually at Strega Nonna in Negaunee Michigan, but she loves to travel to new locations.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most important qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that the owner Savannah would like to share about opening her business first, have a hard conversation. Throughout the process of opening Modern Drift there has been some very diverse and complex conversation. Practicing hard conversation is a good skill to have.

Another being to use your interests and gifts; that being said when you are passionate about your field, you will want to soak up as much knowledge as possible and be so involved all the time.

Lastly, knowing your craft, connecting to the last one the more you know in your field the more you can expand, the more clients you can gain, etc.

I would say my advice to you is challenge yourself in the skills listed above and get involved in the community, and strive to better yourself everyday.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I feel as though are strengths are an amazing asset to our business, I do believe that when you are in the early stages of development that you should try to well round yourself in all parts. I found that in doing so I loved doing things for my business that I never would have tried. It’s all about doing the things out of your comfort zone.
